PGA Shriners Children’s Open: Best Longshot Picks & Predictions (2022)
With the Sanderson Farms Championship in the rearview mirror, we look forward to this weekâs Shriners Childrenâs Open in Las Vegas, Nevada. As It has done for the past 25+ years, TPC Summerlin will host this event.
TPC Summerlin is a par 71, 7,255-yard track that was designed by Bobby Weed and features bentgrass greens with hazards spread throughout the course. Looking at the previous winners of this event, SG: Tee-to-Green and SG: Approach-the-Green are the two top predictors of success at this course.
Below, I will give my two best longshot bets to win the 2022 Shriners Childrenâs Open.

Thomas Detry (+6000): 0.2u
One of my favorite up-and-comers on TOUR, I am extremely bullish on Detry this season. After finally collecting his TOUR card before the Fortinet Championship, he should be a name we see on leaderboards for years to come.
In the two tournaments he has played in since becoming a full member of the PGA TOUR, Detry finished T12 at the Fortinet Championship and T9 at the Sanderson Farms Championship. The main factor of these excellent finishes has been his ball striking, ranking 14th on TOUR in SG: Tee-to-Green and 71st in SG: Approach-the-Green through the first two events this year.
Even before getting his card, Detry has been a sponsorâs exemption at numerous events through the past couple of seasons. Not only has he made each of his last seven cuts on TOUR, but he has also finished inside the top 35 every time.
This could be a guy where we will never see 60/1 again after this season, so we should take advantage while we still can.
Chris Kirk (+7500): 0.1u
Another golfer we are targeting is Chris Kirk, who is currently 75/1. He is one of the more underrated golfers on TOUR and has made 10 of his last 11 cuts.
Over that stretch, Kirk has posted four top-20 finishes, including his T5 finish at the PGA Championship amongst a field that was obviously much deeper than the one this week. The primary reason for this tremendous stretch of golf is Kirkâs iron play.
Through two tournaments this season, Kirk ranks 53rd on TOUR in SG: Tee-to-Green and 42nd in SG: Approach-the-Green. Last season, he finished 20th in SG: Tee-to-Green and 53rd in SG: Approach-the Green.
At TPC Summerlin, Kirk has made four of his last five cuts. At 75/1, this strong iron player is worth a flyer.
Other Outright Winner Plays:
- Max Homa (14/1): 0.4u
- Tom Kim (22/1): 0.3u
Best of luck!
