PGA Tour Betting Picks and Guide: Shriners Children’s Open (2021)

The Dog Days of the PGA Tour calendar have arrived as most of the big names on Tour will largely be resting between now and the new year as major tournaments and their paydays have wrapped. That, however, brings value with longshots all over the card who will bring big paydays for those willing to dig deep enough.

Let’s take a closer look at this week’s field.

Course Preview (TPC Summerlin)

Designed by Bobby Weed, TPC Summerlin is located in Las Vegas, NV, and has been a mainstay on the PGA Tour for decades, formerly known as the Las Vegas Invitational. Littered with Par 4s in the 330-380 range, this course is ripe with birdie opportunities for long hitters and those strongest within 100 yards.

Illustrating this further, the last year’s scoring average here was just 68.343, the lowest of all Par 71 courses on the PGA Tour in the past 16 seasons. With some of the friendliest greens on Tour mixed with perfect weather conditions, look for this field to go low once again this weekend.

Outright Betting Picks

Matthew Wolff (+4000 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
You never quite know which Wolff will show up week to week, as the talented golfer had a brutal 2021 season in which he missed as many cuts as he made, playing a limited schedule as he dealt with some off-the-course issues. However, this is the same guy who started the 2021 season with a solo second at the US Open, followed by a T2 at this same event the following week.

Shooting all four rounds that weekend in the 60s, Wolff also had the lowest aggregate round shooting a 61 on Saturday before losing in a playoff to Martin Laird. In his first appearance of the 2022 season last week at the Sanderson Farms Championship, Wolff had three rounds in the 60s, finishing -16 and T17.

His 5.50 birdie average is good enough for #8 on Tour, and heading to a course this week he knows well and is one of the easiest he’ll see all season, I like for Wolff to go low in this one and find himself near the top of the leaderboard come Sunday.
