College Football Bets
Thor Nystromâs Top Bet: UTEP (-1) at Jacksonville State
In mid-July, I was asked on Twitter to pick one Week 0 upset. UTEP was low-hanging fruit, but I reached for it anyway. Jacksonville State was -2 at the time.
The market has since bet UTEP into small-favorite status. But in my opinion, it hasn't gone far enough yet. My system still believes we're getting over a field goal of line value here.
Jacksonville State isn't up to snuff in this matchup on either side of the line of scrimmage. And the Miners, who came so close to reaching a second-straight bowl last year only to have their season end in devastating fashion, are a veteran-laden squad who are going to be ready to go in the opener.
The pick: UTEP -1
-Thor Nystrom

NFL Preseason Best Bets
Seahawks vs. Packers
Jordan Love is going to play for the Packers; the question is, for how long? Either way, Love's presence signifies that we could see at least a handful of Green Bay's offensive starters see the field against Seattle, who looks likely to sit most of their veterans and starters. While the Seahawks are using this game to solve some roster spot questions, the Packers appear intent on using the preseason finale to help Love enter the regular season on a high note. This line has moved in Green Bay's favor, and I agree with it. I'll take the Packers laying a field goal at home.
Pick: Packers -3 (-110)
-Matt Barbato

MLB Best Bets
Washington Nationals (+170) vs. Miami Marlins (-210) | 8.5 (-105/-115)
Washington continues to play great baseball as they've won 10 of their last 13 games overall. That includes last night's spoiler effort, a 7-4 win over a Marlins team that's trying desperately to secure a Wild Card position. Today's divisional matchup is set for 4:10 p.m. ET from LoanDepot Park in Miami, FL.
Similar to the game above, I don't see a ton of offense being produced here. I'm taking the under in this pitching matchup between Jake Irvin and Eury Perez. Starting with Irvin, he has tossed two consecutive quality starts, allowing just two earned runs over the 12.1 innings of work. In terms of the head-to-head numbers in this game, the right-hander has limited the Fish to a slash line of .267/.353/.333 over 15 at-bats. Just one of those 15 at-bats went for extra bases, a double by Joey Wendle.
As for Perez, we all know how great of a rookie campaign he is putting together. The right-hander enters this game at 5-4 and owns a 2.91 ERA and 1.07 WHIP. Interestingly, his ERA drops to 1.96 at home and opponents are hitting just .189 against him at LoanDepot Park. Finally, in a small sample size of 11 at-bats, the Nats are slashing just .182/.250/.273 against Perez. 8.5 runs is simply too high here and I'm locking in the under.
Bet: Under 8.5 (-115)

FIBA Basketball World Cup Best Bets
Italy vs. Dominican Republic
The Italian National Team knocked off Angola, 81-67, in their first matchup in the FIBA World Cup. Simone Fontecchio added 19 points, while Stefano Tonut added 18 to pace the team. Fontecchio is going to be the go-to guy on offense. Meanwhile, the defense held Angola to just 35.4% from the floor in the win. They'll take on the Dominican Republic, coming off a massive 87-81 over the Philippines. Karl-Anthony Towns added 26 points and 10 rebounds but only shot 5-for-16 from the floor. However, that was enough against a Philippines squad with 28 from Jordan Clarkson. The Dominican Republic only shot 37.7% from the floor in that game. Don't be shocked when Italy covers over KAT's Dominican Republic.
Pick: Italy -6.5 (-110)
