St. Louis Cardinals @ Arizona Diamondbacks

Nolan Arenado got the party started with a three-run bomb in the first inning last night, and the Red Birds ultimately won the series opener 9-6 in the Valley. They’ll send Kyle Gibson to the bump for Game 2 while the Diamondbacks roll with Ryne Nelson. First pitch is set for 8:10 p.m. ET from Chase Field in Phoenix.

Between the offensive stars and bottom-of-the-rotation starters in this matchup, I’m not overthinking it; I’m playing the over. Arizona has been playing in higher-scoring games recently, seeing at least 10 runs in five of their last eight contests. This is mainly due to their electric offense, which ranks seventh in team batting average (.265) and ninth in OPS (.752). They’ll face Gibson, who hasn’t been very sharp, going 1-1 with a 6.23 ERA and 1.08 WHIP.

Meanwhile, Nelson has been much worse in his temporary starting role, where he’s filling in for Eduardo Rodriguez and/or Jordan Montgomery. The right-hander is 0-2 with an 8.22 ERA and 1.83 WHIP. St. Louis has owned him over a small sample size, slashing .333/.400/.722 against him over 18 at-bats. Both Arenado and former Snake Paul Goldschmidt have taken him yard. These offenses are primed to do some damage tonight, and I expect at least 10 runs in Phoenix.

Bet: Over 9.5 (-115)

Detroit Red Wings @ Toronto Maple Leafs

The Red Wings have plummeted since the All-Star break, going 5-12-3 in their last 20. Despite that, there is still a chance for them to reach the playoffs, as they are only one point behind Pittsburgh with three games remaining. This has never been a good Detroit defense, but they had a few playmakers that were a part of their early success. During this span, they averaged 2.5 goals, while before, they allowed 3.49.

The Maple Leafs are locked into third place in the Atlantic. The offense continues to be strong with a 52.77% goal share this year, but it’s been even better at 58% over the last five games.

This should be a great opportunity for Toronto to show its offensive strength against a weak defensive team, but Detroit has its share of offensive playmakers. This looks to be a high-scoring game.

Pick: Over 6.5 Total Goals (-122)

Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400

My most confident play of the week, indicated by the 1.5u wager, is Ross Chastain to score a T10. “The Melon Man” unloaded a hotrod at Texas last year. He battled adversity on pit stops and penalties but kept making his way through the field, ultimately finishing second. It was a similar story at Las Vegas, when Chastain went a lap down. He eventually got the free pass, stayed out on old tires and finished fourth.

In the 10 races at Texas and comparable tracks last season, Chastain finished T5 half the time, including a win at Nashville.

Truthfully, I haven’t invested much in Chastain outside of Las Vegas and Daytona this season. But he’s the most disrespected driver across betting markets right now. I’m not alone on this discovery; the betting public continues to bet down his outright and prop odds. Run, don’t walk to get in on the No. 1 car.

Bet: Ross Chastain Top-10 Finish (-115)
