Maimi Dolphins @ Kansas City Chiefs

This is a very tough game to judge with all of the variables going into it. First, the Dolphins have several injuries on both sides of the ball that could affect them significantly. Also, we have some weather concerns in Kansas City, as temperatures are supposed to drop below zero degrees, with a wind chill bringing it down to around -20.

Are the Dolphins going to compete and keep this game close, or do they have too much stacked against them right now? If they want to be in this game, their defense will have to step up and make some big plays. Yes, CB Xavien Howard and LB Jerome Baker are out. The Dolphins also have more players who are questionable, including safeties Jevon Holland and DeShon Elliot. I’m not sure if Jalen Ramsey will be matched up on Travis Kelce or Rashee Rice for most of this game. Regardless, I still like this play.

Rice has been great over the past month and a half, averaging 86 receiving yards in his last six games. Tonight, I think this streak ends. Not only will he face Ramsey throughout this game, but the freezing temperatures and wind gusts up to 25 MPH may affect this Chiefs’ passing game.

I expect Isiah Pacheco to get plenty of carries against a depleted defense that isn’t accustomed to playing in the cold. The Chiefs can ease up on the passing game even more if they get out to a lead in the first half. While I’m a big fan of Rice, the game script and other factors will keep him under 60 yards in tonight’s game.

Bet: Rashee Rice Under 62.5 Receiving Yards (-105)

New York Knicks @ Memphis Grizzlies

The Knicks (22-16) do battle at the FedEx Forum against the up-and-down Grizzlies (14-24). Memphis had been much better and watchable since Ja Morant’s return from a 25-game suspension, with the Grizzlies posting eight wins in the past 13 games while going a respectable 7-6 against the spread (ATS) during the span. But it’s been a roller coaster ride, with cover streaks and cover skids. After a three-game win and cover streak, all on the road, with victories against the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks, the Grizz came home and lost 128-119 to the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday. They still nearly pulled off the cover as 8.5-point underdogs.

Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, it’s back to the drawing board, as Morant is done for the season with a shoulder injury, and Marcus Smart is on the shelf for at least six weeks due to a finger injury.

These teams meet rather infrequently, being in different conferences, but Morant and the Grizzlies have dominated in recent seasons. In the past six meetings, Memphis has won four straight in the series, while the underdog is 4-2 ATS. While the trends might make it seem like a slam-dunk play, be careful, as the road team has cashed in the past five meetings. Still, feel confident taking Memphis and the points, as the Grizz are playing much better basketball lately, even with some of the key members of the cast going down again.

Bets: Grizzlies +8 (-108)

USC @ Colorado

We’ll stick with the theme with another underdog, making it a 4-dog Saturday. The Trojans are looking to pick themselves off the mat after a shocking 72-64 loss at home against Washington State on Wednesday.

This play comes with some risk, as the Trojans have also dropped the past two games in-conference on the road while going 1-3 ATS in four true road games this season. However, USC has won and covered the past three games in this series, including the past two trips to Boulder, Colo., since Jan. 20, 2022.

Colorado hasn’t exactly been killing it, either. CU has dropped three in a row while failing to cover in each. Granted, those games were all on the road, but the Bufs are just 1-4 ATS across the past five games overall. While Colorado might snap its three-game series losing streak to USC, it has no business laying double digits, or close to it, against anybody right now.

Bets: USC +9.5 (-102)
