NFL Best Bets

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cincinnati Bengals

There are a couple of reasons why this game should be low-scoring. First, it’s the first career start for Bengals quarterback Jake Browning. He played alright late in Cincinnati’s loss to Baltimore last week, but he’s a clear step backward for the Bengals’ offense, which has struggled this year. Additionally, this will be Pittsburgh’s first game without offensive coordinator Matt Canada. While Canada was arguably the worst offensive coordinator in the NFL, mid-week transitions are difficult, and it may take a bit before the Pittsburgh offense is off to the races.

Both offenses should still feed their best playmakers, though. For the Steelers, that will mean plenty of opportunities for running back Jaylen Warren. He’s rushed for 88 or more yards on 15 or fewer carries in each of Pittsburgh’s past three games. The Bengals also have a bottom-five rush defense in terms of yards per carry allowed. For the Bengals, that will mean Browning feeding his best receiver, Ja’Marr Chase. Chase had a down performance last week, but Pittsburgh is a bottom-five defense against opposing WRs in yards allowed per game.

NBA Best Bets

Philadelphia 76ers @ Oklahoma City Thunder

Today gives us a great matchup between two of the strongest teams in the league. Oklahoma City’s young roster has come out of the gates hot but will have a tough matchup with this experienced Philadelphia team.

One matchup in particular that they may struggle with is Joel Embiid against Chet Holmgren. Holmgren may have some trouble against the decidedly stronger reigning MVP. Because of this, I’m targeting Embiid for First Basket.

Although Embiid cashed this prop more than any player last year, he hasn’t had the same success this season. He’s still scoring a ton, leading the 76ers, but just not scoring the First Basket.

OKC is a great matchup because they allow over 25% of their opponent’s first scores to centers. The individual matchup for Embiid makes me think Philadelphia could look to go to him early to establish the mismatch and get Holmgren in foul trouble. It’s time for Embiid to start heating up again on First Baskets.

Pick: Joel Embiid (+410)

NHL Best Bets

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Pittsburgh Penguins

The Penguins are having trouble finding consistency this season, as they’ve gone on a winning and losing streak. Currently, they’ve dropped three of their last four. As anticipated, the offense is playing well with a 54.22 expected goal percentage, which is good enough for sixth, and they’re 10th in expected goals against. The problem is there are some nights where one of the units doesn’t pull their weight.

The Maple Leafs’ offense is on a run, scoring 17 goals in their last four games, winning each. They will need the offense to play well because the defense has not. They’re 24th by allowing 3.58 goals per game with a .896 save percentage.

Both are efficient offenses and although the Penguins are a great two-way team, this game should still see plenty of scoring.

Pick: Over 6.5 (-105)
