Shriners Children’s Open Championship PGA Tour Odds, Picks & Predictions (2022)

Following a thrilling Presidents Cup, the PGA Tour travels west to Las Vegas for the 2022 Shriners Children’s Open at TPC Summerlin this week. The Shriners Children’s Open, a fixture of the fall swing for almost 40 years, has witnessed a lot of Tiger Woods’ maiden PGA Tour triumph in 1996.

The 2022-23 season’s brightest group of players are on display in this year’s field, as world #4 Patrick Cantlay will serve as the tournament’s star player and be joined by Sungjae Im, the defending champion. Fellow Presidents Cup members Max Homa, Tom Kim, Cameron Davis, and sensational newcomer Taylor Montgomery round out what is a strong top of the field.

Others will try to keep the good shoots going while some will try to start their seasons off strong. The week before the Presidents Cup, Homa won his first championship of the year at the Fortinet Championship, while Montgomery earned two top-10 performances to start his PGA Tour career.

Let’s dive into this week’s course and the player I’m keyed in on.

Course Preview: TPC at Summerlin

TPC Summerlin, which measures about 7,250 yards and has a par of 71, has a thrilling series of holes that can make or break a tournament. These holes, the final four, include a drivable par 4 and a reachable par 5 over water, rounded out by a long par three and 444-yard par 4.

Known as one of the easiest courses on Tour, these guys should tear up TPC Summerlin and those that score will score often.

Cam Davis (+4000 on DraftKings Sportsbook

Based on his play to end 2022 and recent success at the President’s Cup, it’s a matter of time before this  27-year-old Australian wins again on Tour. In what was his best season to date in the 2021/22 season, I like for him to get off to a strong start starting right here in Las Vegas.

To wrap up 2021/22 finished just outside the final Tour Championship field of 30, increased his top-20 finishes from the previous year with eight, and advanced to the BMW Championship, the second round of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.  In fact, Davis had five straight appearances where he placed T16 or better before the BMW, helped greatly by outstanding tee to green performances each week.

I expect his long drives and superb wedge game put him in contention to take this one home.
