NBA Picks

New Orleans Pelicans vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

This is the one game that has the most at stake for Sunday. Whichever team wins will wrap up the 8-seed and likely play the Lakers on Tuesday for a chance at the 7-seed. The loser will host the Thunder on Wednesday in a do-or-die game.

Given the stakes, I'm assuming the regular starters are playing for both teams, even with Minnesota on a back-to-back, they should play everyone. Both of these teams have dealt with a multitude of injuries but are healthier now than they've been all year. Even though Minnesota is the home team, I like the Pelicans on the spread in this spot.

The Pelicans have finished the regular season on fire. They're 8-2 SU in their last ten and 7-2-1 ATS. This is a team that finished last year strong and impressed in a short playoff stint. They've been a really solid rebounding team this year which has led them to a sixth-ranked adjusted defensive rating. That success on the boards is something Minnesota has struggled with as they rank 27th and 26th in offensive and defensive rebounding, respectively.

New Orleans is the better team and when the playoffs come around that is all that matters. Of course, this isn't the end for either team, but in a game that will significantly affect both these teams' chances, I'm going to back the better team with the Pelicans.

Pick: 1.1u on Pelicans +3.5 (-110)

MLB Best Bets

Oakland Athletics vs. Tampa Bay Rays

The Rays have had a favorable schedule to begin the year. A series against Oakland never hurt anyone. They'll face James Kaprielian, one of the worst starters on the MLB slate today.

Kaprielian finished his season debut with a 9.00 ERA against the Guardians. He struck out five in five innings but allowed seven hits and two walks to Cleveland. Since last year, Kaprielian has had a 5.75 xFIP with 17.1% of strikeouts and 10.1% of walks. He rarely earns ground balls and gives up plenty of hard contact.

The Rays don't have the most incredible lineup on paper, but this team has plenty of power against righties, including Luke Raley, who has a .210 ISO in 73 plate appearances against righties.

On the other hand, Drew Rasmussen will get the start for the Rays. His xFIP is below 4.00 using this year's and last year's stats. He's struck out nearly 22% of batters and has walked just above 5%. The Athletics have combined for a wOBA of .287, with their projected lineup dating back to last season. That's just not going to get it done. Not against a Rays offense that is peaking right now.

Back the Rays at -1.5.

Bet: Rays -1.5 (-145)

NHL Best Bets

Boston Bruins (-280vs. Philadelphia Flyers (+225) | O/U 6.5 (-102/-120)

The Bruins are now the all-time regular season wins leader with their 62nd win last night. This is a stellar team with the ability to dominate on both sides of the puck and at even strength and special teams. They've played a lot of hockey the last few days, with three games the previous four days, and two went into overtime.

It has been a tough finish to the Flyers' season, as they've lost six straight. The offense continues to be abysmal like it a been all season, and they're only averaging 2.67 goals per game.

The Bruins are chasing after history and will get even closer tonight. Both teams are on the back-to-back, and the Flyers are at a slight disadvantage because they did use both of their goalies last night. It doesn't matter because Boston is just a much better team

Pick: Bruins -1.5 (-115)
