Super Bowl LIX is set for Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET on FOX between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. It’s the second time in the past three seasons that we’ve seen this matchup. The Chiefs won a wild 38-35 victory over the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Ariz. on February 12th, 2023 in the most recent battle between these teams in the Big Game. Regardless of which team comes out on top, history is going to be made.
While it’s a little late in the game, and many bets have already been made, you’re probably sick of the media chatter and you’re simply ready for some football after two weeks off. Let’s dive into the numbers one last time and have a fun look while we’re at it.

Super Bowl LIX By the Numbers: Chiefs vs. Eagles
Amount of Super Bowls Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley has appeared in… until Sunday. Also, this is the amount of Super Bowl appearances by the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans. Sorry, fans of those teams. It had to be said.
World championships for the Eagles. Philadelphia won its only previous championship in Super Bowl LII at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, as Big Di… uh, Saint Nick, QB Nick Foles, topped the New England Patriots and future Hall of Famer QB Tom Brady 41-33.
Consecutive Super Bowl wins by the Chiefs. Kansas City has not only won each of the past two Super Bowls, but they’ve done so winning outright as an underdog, too. This time around, the Chiefs are slight favorites.
QB Patrick Mahomes has three Super Bowl championships, and he is just 29 years old. He is becoming the first quarterback in NFL history to lead his team to three consecutive Super Bowl championships, too.
Mahomes can tie legendary QBs Terry Bradshaw (Steelers) and Joe Montana (49ers) with four Super Bowl victories.
In the past five years, the Chiefs have appeared in four Super Bowls, going 2-2 straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS). Chiefs OL Joe Thuney is also trying to become immortal with a fifth Super Bowl championship on Sunday.
(.5): Call me crazy, but my favorite prop play on Sunday is taking Philadelphia Eagles RB Kenneth Gainwell to go Over 6.5 rushing yards (-110).
Even if Mahomes can win Sunday, he has a ways to go to catch Brady. The legendary QB has seven Super Bowl rings, including six with the Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Also, Mahomes has seven touchdown passes in his four Super Bowl appearances.
San Francisco 49ers WR Jerry Rice holds the all-time record with eight career Super Bowl touchdown receptions.
(.6): Los Angeles Raiders RB Marcus Allen holds the all-time record of 9.6 yards per rushing attempt (min. 20 attempts) in Super Bowl XVIII against Washington.
Most starts as quarterback is held by, of course, Tom Brady. Patrick Mahomes will be making his fifth start in the big game.
New York Giants P Brad Maynard holds the record for the most punts in a single game in Super Bowl XXXV against the Ravens.
Jersey number of the QB with the most Super Bowl titles (Tom Brady, seven) and second-most titles (Terry Bradshaw, four)
The most points scored by a team in the first quarter has been accomplished seven times, most recently by the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
(XV): OK, the first Super Bowl I ever watched from beginning to end was Super Bowl XV between the Philadelphia Eagles and Oakland Raiders, which was also in the Caesars Superdome. I was an Eagles fan as a kid, and WR Keith Krepfle was the only touchdown scorer in franchise history in the big game until Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville.
Jersey number of the QB with the second-most Super Bowl titles (Joe Montana, four - tied with Terry Bradshaw). Sixteen is also the record for most consecutive completions by, yep, Tom Brady, in Super Bowl XLVI against the New York Giants. Also, this is the fewest amount of combined points in a Super Bowl, as the Patriots topped the Rams 13-3 in Super Bowl LIII.
Raiders/Vikings P Mike Eischeid and Broncos/Rams P Mike Horan are tied with the most career punts in Super Bowl history.
The most solo tackles plus assists record is held by LB Dan Morgan of the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII against the Patriots.
The largest fourth-quarter comeback was by the Patriots against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI.
Most points scored in a single Super Bowl is a tie between Patriots RB James White (Super Bowl LI), and Jalen Hurts in Super Bowl LVII. Hurts had three touchdowns and a two-point conversion.
Yeah, yeah. Tom Brady again. He has the most career touchdown passes in the Super Bowl era (21).
Sorry Chiefs fans. In Super Bowl LV against the Buccaneers, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs lost 31-9. The 22-point margin is the worst defeat in the Super Bowl since the Seattle Seahawks pounded the Denver Broncos 43-8 at MetLife Stadium in Super Bowl XLVIII.
Most combined points in the first quarter, as the Patriots led the Packers 14-10 in Super Bowl XXXI after 15 minutes.
Biggest blown lead and flop. The Falcons led Tom Brady and the Patriots in Super Bowl LI, then went on to lose 34-28.
The fewest rushing yards by the winning team was 29 by the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXIV against the Tennessee Titans.
Most points in the second half of play were scored by the New York Giants in Super Bowl XXI against the Broncos.
In four Super Bowl appearances, Travis Kelce has 31 receptions, averaging nearly eight catches per game. His over-under for Sunday’s game is set at 6.5 receptions at most shops.
DB Rodney Harrison, who played in one Super Bowl with the Chargers and three with the Patriots, has the record for most tackles plus assists in a career with 34.
Most points scored in the first half of play were scored by Washington in Super Bowl XXII against the Broncos.
Most points combined in the fourth quarter, as the Panthers scored 19 and the Patriots scored 18, in Super Bowl XXXVIII.
Washington RB John Riggins had the most rushing attempts (39) in Super Bowl XVII against the Miami Dolphins.
The largest lead at the end of the third quarter was in Super Bowl XX, as the Bears led the Patriots 44-3.
The Chicago Bears scored the most consecutive points in a single game in Super Bowl XX against the Patriots.
The largest margin of victory is by the 49ers against the Broncos in Super Bowl XXIV.
The Bears posted 46 points against the Patriots in that wild win for one of the NFL’s most lovable teams.
Jerry Rice leads all players in Super Bowl history with 48 career points in the big game. Also, 48 is the number of most attempts in a Super Bowl without an interception (Tom Brady, again.)
(LII): The number 52 will forever be special to Eagles fans, as it represents the first-ever world championship in the Super Bowl era for the Eagles.
The 49ers set the all-time record for points in a single game in Super Bowl XXIV against the Broncos.
Chiefs PK Harrison Butker holds the record for the longest field goal, set last season against the 49ers.
Most passing attempts in a Super Bowl by, you guessed it, Tom Brady. He did it in Super Bowl LI in that hellacious comeback against the Atlanta Falcons.
Most combined completions, as New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (32) and Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning (31) put on a show in rainy Super Bowl XLIV in Miami.
The longest fumble return is by Dallas Cowboys defender Leon Lett in Super Bowl XXVII against the Buffalo Bills, although WR Don Beebe had a thing or two to say about Lett not scoring.
Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Ariz. between these teams featured the second-highest scoring team, as the Chiefs edged the Eagles 38-35.
Super Bowl XXIX in Miami between the San Francisco 49ers and San Diego Chargers was the highest-scoring game in the Big Game’s history. The 49ers won 49-26.
(.2): Patrick Mahomes has an 85.2 passer rating in his four career Super Bowl appearances.
The longest touchdown-scoring drive was accomplished three times, with the Patriots last accomplishing the feat against the Giants in Super Bowl XLVI.
The longest play in Super Bowl history was a 108-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Jacoby Jones of the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII against the 49ers. Also, 108 is the most career rushing attempts in a Super Bowl, held by legendary Steelers RB Franco Harris.
