Super Bowl LIX Squares Strategy, Advice & Picks: Chiefs vs. Eagles (2025)

Super Bowl LIX will be held on Sunday, February 9th, at 6:30 p.m. ET in the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Chances are you want some skin in the game. However, if you’re unfamiliar with sports betting, there are other ways to get involved with the Big Game. One of them is by playing Super Bowl Squares.

Super Bowl Squares is mostly random. If you’re headed to a Super Bowl party, the host or someone else has put together a Super Bowl Squares table. All you have to do is select squares and put your name inside the box. Then, numbers will be randomized vertically and horizontally. You’ll have two numbers that coincide with your name.

The object is to have the correct score by the time the first quarter, second quarter, third quarter and fourth quarter finish.

Picture a board with 10 x 10 100 squares. On the left side, there are random numbers vertically that correspond to the Eagles’ score. Meanwhile, there are also numbers randomly and horizontally corresponding to the Chiefs’ score. The goal is to have the correct Eagles and Chiefs scores when every quarter concludes.

For example, if you have a square with an Eagles 7 and a Chiefs 0, and the Chiefs lead the Eagles 10-7 or the Eagles lead 7-0 by the end of the first quarter, you’d win the first-quarter prize.

Currently, the Chiefs are -125 favorites, with the total at 48.5. There could be lots of scoring and many lead changes. You don’t have to know much about football to join Super Bowl Squares. It’s mostly luck. But that’s what makes it fun.

That said, I’ve listed some tips below that can help you with this year’s Super Bowl Squares.

Super Bowl LIX Squares Strategy Guide

Here’s a breakdown of how Super Bowl Squares works.

How Squares Pools Work

A proper Super Bowl Squares grid is 10 x 10. It has 100 slots with 10 rows and 10 columns. Ultimately, once everyone adds their name to the squares, the host will randomize numbers and put the numbers on the side that can be vertically and horizontally.

Some pools will allow multiple entries depending on how many people have joined. But ultimately, the goal is to fill out all 100 boxes before kick-off. When asked to select a box, it doesn’t matter which box you choose. At this time, you don’t know where each number will be. Just find the “lucky” box or boxes and cross your fingers that you get quality numbers.

Again, each team will get assigned the numbers for its column and row. The goal is to have the final digit in each team’s score at the end of each quarter.

The Numbers You Want

In the NFL, some numbers rarely show up. There are also a few elite numbers in Super Bowl Squares.

How often do you see a game finish 20-17 or 27-24? All of the time.

The most popular ways to score in the NFL are touchdowns and field goals. Typically, a touchdown is worth seven points and a field goal is worth three.

These are the most common numbers to land on in the NFL: 0, 3, 6, 7, 10, 13, 14, 17, 20, 21, 24, 27, 30, 31, 35, and so forth.

However, when there’s a safety, missed extra point, and/or a two-point conversion, all of that is lost.

Still, you’d love to see your numbers in Super Bowl squares, which are 0, 3 and 7.

The Good, Not Great Numbers

The following three best numbers would be 1, 4 and 6. Plenty of times, teams finish with scores of 21,14, 24 and 6. With four touchdowns and a field goal, a team can also get to 31.

The Ugly Numbers

If you get 2, 5, 8 and 9, the probability of winning a quarter, half or full game of Super Bowl Squares is low.

These numbers can be hit, there just isn’t much of a chance. To land on 8, you’d need one touchdown and a two-point conversion or two touchdowns, one field goal and one extra point, to go along with a two-point conversion. The only “normal” way to get to 8 is by scoring four touchdowns with four extra points.

Meanwhile, the best way to get to 5 is for a team to score five touchdowns with five extra points. It’s hard to imagine either team getting to 35 points.

But while these numbers aren’t ideal, don’t give up. Anything can happen. Many coaches overthink themselves in the Super Bowl, and the scores get out of wack because of it.

Don’t give up any hope if you get an ugly number. It’s just more rare. However, many interesting decisions are made in the Super Bowl, which will often change the consistency of an average NFL score.

How to Choose Your Squares

Find the lucky square and write your name on it.

If you’ve got multiple squares, make sure to add your name in a complete no column and row. You don’t want to get caught with your name in the same row or the same column that connects to a bad number. You’ll give yourself the best chance to win if you spread out your multiple boxes.

Why the Super Bowl Matchup Matters

The Chiefs are 1.5-point favorites, with the total currently hovering around 48.5.

That means the Chiefs are ultimately projected to defeat the Eagles by a score of 25-23.5. The game can’t land on a half-point, but the odds imply we should at least get a tight game that includes some scoring. That’s ideal because you don’t want one person to win each quarter without any score changes.
