With the spread tight and the total sitting at 47.5, there’s a solid probability that this game could be back-and-forth with plenty of points scored in the game.

That’s what you like to see for Super Bowl Squares.

You can know absolutely nothing about either team or how the game of football is played. However, you can still join Super Bowl Squares and win some money.

Super Bowl Squares is primarily random. But we’ve put together a guide that should ultimately give you an edge when joining one of these pools.

Super Bowl Squares Strategy Guide: Super Bowl LVIII

Here’s a breakdown of how Super Bowl Squares works.

How Squares Pools Work

You’re looking at the proper setup if you see a massive grid with boxes. Super Bowl Squares will have ten columns and ten rows.

Depending on how many people are joining, you could take multiple squares. Some pools only allow you to take one box. Essentially, the pool will want to fill up each box with someone’s name in it.

When asked to add your name to the 10-by-10 grid, you will take at least one box (maybe more) and find that lucky square.

When the entire grid is complete with people’s names, each column and row will have the numbers 0-9 inserted for each row and column.

This is where you will get assigned a score.

Each team will get assigned the numbers for its column and row. Let’s say the 49ers are the column number, and the Chiefs are the row number.

Let’s also say your box is connected to the 49ers’ 7 and the Chiefs’ 3.

With these numbers, you can win a quarter, half, or entire game, with the 49ers winning with a 7-3, 17-3, 17-13 finish. As long as the final digit of the score is your number, you’d win.

The goal is to have the final digit in each team’s score at the end of each quarter.

The Numbers You Want

Think about the most normal football scores. We’ve seen 20-17 and 27-24 matchups all of the time.

The most popular ways to score in the NFL are touchdowns and field goals. Therefore, you’re going to want common numbers with these two scoring methods.

You’ll see these numbers a lot in an NFL game – 0, 3, 6, 7, 10, 13, 14, 17, 20, 21, 24, 27, 30, 31, 35, and so forth.

Of course, there will be instances where a missed extra point or safety ruins the consistency of these types of scores. One year, Peyton Manning and the Broncos gave up a safety to the Seattle Seahawks on the game’s first play. That’s when things got tricky. But for the most part, those are the scores we see the most in the NFL.

Getting 0, 3, and 7 is very ideal.

The Good, Not Great Numbers

If you don’t get 0, 3, or 7, don’t fret. You can still win with quality numbers like 1, 4, and 6.

Teams often finish games with scores of 21, 14, 24, and 6. You can even get a 31, as shown above.

The Ugly Numbers

It’s rare for scores to hit 2, 5, 8, and 9.

There are instances where these numbers are hit. But it’s more rare.

For example, if a team scores four touchdowns and makes each extra point, they’d have 28 points. You can hit an 8 with four touchdowns. You can also hit a 5 with five touchdowns and get a score of 35.

Don’t give up any hope if you get an ugly number. It’s just more rare. However, many interesting decisions are made in the Super Bowl, which will often change the consistency of an average NFL score.

How to Choose Your Squares

If you can only have one square, put your name on the square you feel is lucky. However, if you can play with more than one square, you will want to mix it up.

Don’t put your name in the same column and row as another square. If you scatter your name around, you can land two quality squares better.

If you were to put your name on top of each other, you could hurt your chances. Let’s say you add your name into the same row twice. When that row is randomly picked for the No. 9, your probability of winning would be super low.

Why the Super Bowl Matchup Matters

The 49ers are currently 2-point favorites, with the total at 47.5. Therefore, the implied projected finish has the 49ers earning a 25-23 win over the Chiefs.

It isn’t easy to get to 25 points. But let’s say you have a 5 for the 49ers and 3 for the Chiefs, and the game finished at 35-23. You'd win a portion of Super Bowl Squares!
