Overview

The fourth year of the Jimbo Fisher experiment in College Station looks to be going as planned as the team came just a few plays away in 2020 from making the CFP. They do enter this season without their all-time leading passer in Kellen Mond, who has since departed for the NFL.

In his place steps freshman Haynes King, who struggled to not turn the ball over in week 1 but did show the potential with his feet that had this coaching staff so excited. On the defensive side of the ball, the Aggies will once again have one of the best units in the SEC, as the secondary already has two picks and five sacks through just one game.

For the Buffs, 2020 was a pleasant surprise as they went 4-1 through the regular season before losing their Bowl game to Texas. They also start the season with a freshman in Brenden Lewis, who played decent last week against FCS Northern Colorado but did nothing special in the win.

The Colorado defense is certainly a cause for concern this season, with just 74% of production returning, which ranks the lowest in the PAC-12.

Trends

  • Texas A&M is 24-9-1 in their last 34 in September
  • The Over is 5-0 in Colorado’s last five as an underdog

Bottom Line

Ultimately, I think the level of talent and coaching disparity between these two programs is more sizeable than most think. With four years of 4 (and 5) stars flowing through this program, coach Fisher knows the time is now and, if they can limit the turnovers, should once again be competing for an SEC title this season.

While I do think Dorrell has long-term success with this program, I don’t think it takes another step forward in this one and see a route coming down the pike.

Pick: Texas A&M -17
