TGL Golf Picks & Predictions: Best Bets for Monday (3/17)
The TGL Playoffs are set to tee off tonight at 7 p.m. EDT from the indoor SoFi Center facility at Palm Beach State College in Florida. Monday’s first of two Semifinal matches features the 4-0-1 Los Angeles Golf Club against the 2-2-1 New York Golf Club. The winning team will advance to the TGL Finals Series, playing a best-of-three on March 24th and March 25th to determine the SoFi Cup winner.
New York is the lowest seed in the four-team TGL Playoffs. Oddsmakers are valuing them as a marginal underdog at -105 odds to beat the 1-seed Los Angeles Golf Club during Monday’s Semifinal match. New York’s playoff roster features Xander Schauffele, Rickie Fowler, and Cameron Young. The Los Angeles starting lineup includes Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood, and Sahith Theegala.
I’ve got three best bets, each worth one unit, to place ahead of Monday’s inaugural TGL playoff match between Los Angeles Golf Club and New York Golf Club. My previous TGL best bets from Monday, March 3rd, went a profitable 3-1. This included both outright winners, New York (+100) and Los Angeles (-125), while also cashing on Rickie Fowler to have the longest drive on Hole 2 against Keegan Bradley. Winning Team
I like the underdog in this match, despite entering Monday’s match as the lowest seed in the TGL Playoffs. New York Golf Club has been heating up down the stretch after an 0-2 start, beating Jupiter Links 10-3, losing to Los Angeles 5-4 in overtime, then dominating Boston Common Golf 10-6 in their most recent match.
Los Angeles trailed 4-0 on the 12th tee against New York before they mounted a huge comeback to pull off the overtime win. They received a big contribution from Sahith Theegala’s 28-foot birdie putt on the 12th hole. Then, Tony Finau hit a great approach shot and 9-foot putt on the 13th hole during Singles to keep the momentum and cutting the deficit to 4-3. This happened after Los Angeles threw a Hammer to increase the value of the hole to 2 points before teeing off.
Collin Morikawa drilled another approach shot inside of 6 feet for the match-tying birdie on the 14th hole. After Rickie Fowler and Sahith Theegala tied on the 15th and final hole in regulation, overtime saw Los Angeles get closer to the pin in Matchup 1 and Matchup 2 to secure their win.
Tonight’s match will be played on a different course and holes than the previous match that Los Angeles won back on February 24th. L.A. will also be playing without Finau in this match. Meanwhile, Schauffele will compete in the playoff match for New York, replacing Matt Fitzpatrick who was on the roster during the overtime loss.
Fowler, Young, and Schauffele can all bomb it off the tee. Morikawa and Tommy Fleetwood are very good with their approach shots, however, I like Schauffele’s ironplay quite a bit. Fowler has also been dialed in with his irons.
Putting is volatile for nearly every golfer in this TGL playoff match but I like New York’s core more than Los Angeles. Tee-to-green should also favor New York, despite Morikawa playing as one of the most accurate iron players on the PGA Tour in 2025.
Revenge will be on New York’s mind and I think they come out and deliver an upset during the first match of the inaugural TGL Playoffs. Let’s bet a unit on the New York Golf Club to beat the Los Angeles Golf Club to advance to the TGL Finals Series next week.
Pick: New York Golf Club (-105)
To Lead First
New York held an early lead against Los Angeles in their previous matchup and I think a similar outcome will occur early in tonight’s match. The rotation of Schauffele, Fowler, Young during triples means Young will be tasked with putting or scrambling, depending on the approach shot from Fowler on the par 4 Plank.
Morikawa-Fleetwood-Theegala means we’re also going to have Los Angeles’ worst putter, Theegala, going head-to-head against Young to win Hole 1. It’s under 400 yards, so I expect one of these teams to make birdie.
Fowler has struggled with his putter lately on the PGA Tour but his approach shots have been rock solid. Fleetwood is also a quality iron player but I’d rather bet on the tandem of Schauffele-Fowler-Young to get on the board first in this high-stakes TGL playoff match.
Pick: New York Golf Club (-115)
Pick: Xander Schauffele (+150)
