Thursday Night Football Player Prop Bets: Odds, Picks & Predictions (Saints vs. Cardinals)
In Week seven of our âThursday Night Football Player Prop Bets: Odds, Picks & Predictionsâ we get to preview the 2-4 New Orleans Saints vs. the 2-4 Arizona Cardinals. Each team is dealing with its fair share of injuries on the offensive side of the ball.
The Cardinals will be without top wide receiver Marquise Brown and most likely, top running back James Conner. However, Arizona will welcome back stud wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and newly acquired Robbie Anderson into the lineup for Week 7.
On the other side of the field, the Saints will be without top quarterback Jameis Winston and two of their three top wide receivers in Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry. The good news for New Orleans is that first-round rookie Chris Olave should return from his one-week absence to a concussion this week. Finally, this contest will be played in a dome, which means the weather will not impact the game this week.
This week we will be highlighting the Same Game Parlay function on DraftKings Sportsbook. If you want to learn more about the same game parlay, click here. Thursday Night Football Player Prop Bets: Odds, Picks & Predictions (Saints vs. Cardinals)
- Player: Andy Dalton
- Alternative Player Prop: 244.5 Passing Yards (-220)
- Recommendation: Bet the Under
Andy Dalton has done a solid job filling in for injured starter Jameis Winston so far this season. Dalton has averaged 195 passing yards per game in his three games as a starter. This includes no games over the alternative passing yards of 244.5. Some of this has to do with seeding work to Taysom Hill, as Dalton hasn't played over 90% of the snaps in the last two games. Another key factor is the injuries to the receiving core, as Thomas, Landy and Olave have missed time. This week Dalton will get back Olave, but he will be without his other two top wide receivers and his TE1, Adam Trautman, for this contest.
After struggling early in the season, the Cardinals' secondary has found its footing over the past few weeks. In Weeks 1-3 they allowed over 240 passing yards to each starting quarterback. Since then, no quarterback has gone over that mark. This includes in Week 5, holding red-hot Jalen Hurts to just 239 passing yards and under seven yards per attempt for the first time in 2022. In Week 6, the Cardinals held Geno Smith to just 197 passing yards after he threw for 265 or more yards in three straight games.
What the Cardinals have done over the past few weeks vs. stronger passing games has been impressive, which is why we should bet the under on Dalton's alternative 244.5 passing game yards prop in Week 7.
- Player: DeAndre Hopkins
- Alternative Player Prop: Receptions 4+ (-525)
- Recommendation: Bet the Over
The timing of Hopkins' return is almost eerie, as Brown injured his foot on the last play of the game just last week. It is fair to wonder if Hopkins might be on a snap count in his first game back. However, all indications so far are that Hopkins will get a big workload immediately. Either way, his long-awaited return brings a lot of question marks after a less-than-stellar 2021 season. After returning to form in his first season in Arizona, catching 115 passes for 1,407 yards, Hopkins struggled last season, only averaging 4.2 receptions and just over 57 receiving yards per game. The good news for this prop is Hopkins caught at least four or more receptions in six of nine games before leaving that 10th game with an injury.
This week Hopkins will get the chance to hit the ground running vs. a struggling New Orleans Saints pass defense. So far in 2022, the Saints have allowed wide receivers the sixth most fantasy points. Most of those fantasy points have been on the perimeter, as top wide receivers like Drake London (5-74), Justin Jefferson (10-147), D.K. Metcalf (5-88-1), and Ja'Marr Chase (7-132-2) all hit the four-reception mark vs. the Saints. Finally, with top cornerback Marshon Lattimore out this week, Hopkins should have no problem securing targets vs. the other Saints' defensive backs in Week 7.
- Player: Juwan Johnson
- Player Prop: Receiving Yards 10+ (-500)
- Recommendation: Bet the Over
In theory, Juwan Johnson should be in line for a much bigger role this week as top tight end Adam Trautman is out for Week 7. Even with Trautman in the lineup, Johnson has gone over 30 receiving yards in four of six games. This should mean we could get more aggressive on his player props. Yet, call it a gut feeling, but practice squad tight end Nick Vannett will be called up and could play the Trautman role. If Vannett isn't activated for this game, we can get more aggressive on this player prop, only giving us better odds. For example, increasing his receiving yards over to 19.5+ increases the odds for this parlay to +205. At 29.5+, you can get a ridiculous +340.
The timing of this potential increase in usage for Johnson is perfect as the Saints get a solid matchup for tight ends vs. the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals this season have allowed the most fantasy points to the tight end in the receiving game. This includes allowing a league-high 45 receptions so far in 2022. The Cardinals have faced some of the best tight ends in the league, including Travis Kelce (8-121-1), Darren Waller (6-50-1), Tyler Higbee (4-61) and Dallas Goedert (8-95). However, even tight ends like Tommy Tremble (3-34) and Noah Fant (6-45) were able to put up solid numbers vs. the Cardinals. This matchup and increased role should allow Johnson to hit his alternative receiving yards prop of 9.5+ this week.
- Andy Dalton alternative passing yards under 244.5
- DeAndre Hopkins alternative reception prop over 4 receptions
- Juwan Johnson receiving yards over 9.5
