Baltimore Orioles @ Boston Red Sox

Baltimore has been a bit inconsistent to start the season, but getting a sweep in Boston would put them in the right direction. The eyes will once again be on top prospect Jackson Holliday, who made his MLB debut last night, going 0-4 with an RBI. Grayson Rodriguez’s sophomore season is starting well, as he has won both starts with a 2.19 ERA and a 5.3 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

The Red Sox got off to a nice start, but Baltimore is the first opponent they’ve faced that went to the playoffs last year. They haven’t looked good so far, including yesterday, when they blew a 5-0 lead. Garrett Whitlock has moved in and out of the rotation throughout his career. Last year, he had a career-worse 5.15 ERA, but he’s had a fantastic start to 2024 with a 0.96 ERA.

Those starts for Whitlock were against the Mariners and Angels. He sees a much better lineup today, and with Rodriguez on the mound, Baltimore is in a good spot to pull out the brooms.

Pick: Orioles Moneyline (-122)

NBA Best Bets

New Orleans Pelicans @ Sacramento Kings

The Pelicans (47-32) and the Kings (45-34) square off at the Golden 1 Center in California’s capital city.

New Orleans has dominated this series, winning seven of the past nine meetings, including all four battles this season. New Orleans has also covered all four of the meetings, each as an underdog. The Under is 3-1 in the four battles this season while going 5-1 in the past six and 7-3 in the past 10 battles since Nov. 3, 2021.

Sacramento was on the short end of a 112-105 score at Oklahoma City last time out, and it has dropped three of the past four games while splitting against the number. We’re more focused on the Under, however. The Under has hit three times in a row for the Kings while going 10-2 in the past 12 games. The total has also gone low in 14 of the past 17 contests. The Kings have scored 109 or fewer points in five straight games and 10 of their past 11 outings, slowing it down. The Kings have allowed 112 or fewer points in three in a row and 15 of the past 17 games.

Bet: Under 218.5 Total Points (-110)

Detroit Red Wings @ Pittsburgh Penguins

We’re heading right into a high-stakes play-in game in the Eastern Conference between Pittsburgh and Detroit. The teams have split their season series 1-1, with the Penguins winning the most recent matchup 6-3 at home in PPG Paints Arena back in mid-March. Pittsburgh returns home after their four-game win streak ended on the road against Toronto.

Both teams desperately need this win, but the Penguins are playing like the better team. Detroit’s disappointing 2-1 loss to Washington on Tuesday – despite recording 43 shots on goal to only 23 for the Capitals – shows their vulnerability. Pittsburgh’s goaltending has been sharper with Alex Nedeljkovic in the crease, who we can expect to patrol the goal once again on Thursday night. The Penguins have won each of their last seven games at home. Plus, they beat the Red Wings at home under a month ago.

We’re laying a bit of juice on Pittsburgh at -150 moneyline odds, but it’s the best bet to make in this must-win Eastern Conference matchup.

Bet: Pittsburgh Penguins Moneyline (-150)
