Tom Kim 2023 British Open Odds, Picks & Predictions
Itâs homecoming week for Rory McIlroy at the British Open.
Well, not exactly. McIlroy is a native of Northern Ireland and currently resides in Jupiter, Florida. This year's British Open (or "Open Championship," if you're a purist) is being held at Royal Liverpool (aka "Hoylake") in Wirral, England.
But McIlroy hoisted the Claret Jug the last time the Open was held at Royal Liverpool, besting Rickie Fowler and Sergio Garcia by two shots in 2014, and he returns nine years later as the betting favorite.
Who could have imagined that Rory would go nine years without winning a major? He won both the Open and the PGA Championship in 2014 â his third and fourth major championships. He was only 25 at the time.
Can Rory end the majors drought at a course where he's tasted victory before? It won't be easy, as world No. 1-ranked player Scottie Scheffler, 2023 Masters champion Jon Rahm and 2023 PGA champ Brooks Koepka all have designs on the Jug.
Fans of true links golf and the creative shotmaking it requires should be excited about the Open Championship's return to Hoylake. The course will be firm and fast, and we'll see a lot of players landing their approach shots in front of the green and bouncing the ball onto the putting surface.
McIlroy posted a winning score of -17 in 2014. Tiger Woods finished at -18 when he won the Open at Hoylake in 2006. But if the wind howls, we could easily see a winning score in the neighborhood of -7 or -8.
The British Open champion is granted the title of Champion Golfer of the Year. Let's take a closer look at some of the players vying for that honor.

Tom Kim 2023 British Open Betting Outlook
This will be Tom Kim's second career British Open, and he's looking to build on a T47 performance last year at St. Andrews. The 21-year-old finished T6 last week at the Scottish Open and is playing solid golf overall. In the majors this year heâs had a T8 and T16 finish. There are two stats that make me love Kim this weekend from a betting standpoint. He's currently ranked seventh on the PGA Tour in driving accuracy (69.0%) and sixth in greens in regulation (70.0%). This is a challenging course that likely won't see the winner break into the -20s. So, if Kim can avoid bogeys and play a respectable brand of golf, he'll have a successful weekend.
Tom Kim 2023 British Open Betting Advice
Considering Kim's coming off a strong outing at the Scottish Open, I think it's worth a shot at playing him to win this tournament outright at +5500 (via BetRivers).
