Top 3 Head-to-Head Matchup Picks for 2023 BMW Championship
The playoffs roll on this week, as the Top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings have made their way to Olympia Fields Country Club for this weekâs BMW Championship. The 7,366-yard, par-70 layout will favor length, but accuracy on approach will be key. Wayward iron shots will result in some difficult up-and-down scenarios.
This will be the second time in four years that Olympia Fields will host a playoff event. Jon Rahm bested Dustin Johnson on the first playoff hole to win the title last time. While DJ and his LIV Golf counterparts arenât part of the playoffs, we should see some very tense moments coming down the stretch.
The field for next weekâs Tour Championship will be the top 30 in the standings Sunday night. Letâs get to the picks.

Scottie Scheffler vs. Rory McIlroy
The top two players on tour in SG: Tee-To-Green are both -110 here. When you look at the stats, both of them are at or near the top across the board. Except for one area. You guessed it. Putting. Scheffler is an abysmal 146th in SG: Putting. While Rory isnât exactly Ben Crenshaw with the flat stick, heâs still markedly better than Scheffler. McIlroy is in stellar form, with eight straight top-ten finishes, including a win at the Scottish Open. Scheffler was on a similar roll until The Open. He finished T-23 there and followed that up last week with a T-31 finish. These two are headed in opposite directions.
Pick: Rory McIlroy (-110)
Cam Davis vs. Emiliano Grillo
When Cam Davis has the putter going, he can compete with the best in the world. Heâs done exactly that the last three weeks, with three consecutive top-ten finishes. Davis in 9th best in SG: Off-The-Tee and 44th in SG: Total. The Australian has it working right now.
Grillo has been playing better since his win in a playoff at the Charles Schwab Challenge but heâs come up short in big spots, missing the cut at the PGA Championship, The Players Championship and the U.S. Open. The lights are getting brighter and the Argentinian that ranks 52nd on tour in SG: Total and 78th in SG: Putting is starting to fade.
Pick: Cam Davis (-120)
Cameron Young vs. Lucas Glover
Can Glover pull off the improbable and win three weeks in a row? Thatâs the kind of stuff thatâs reserved for guys named Nelson, Hogan and Woods so itâs doubtful. But you canât argue with the way heâs playing. Oddsmakers are expecting the other shoe to drop and Glover to finally cool down.
The thing about that is, the other side of this matchup doesnât inspire much confidence. Cameron Young has been playing better as of late with two top-tens last month. But a missed cut and a T-31 since indicates that Young hasnât quite found any consistency in his game. This is too good of a number for a guy as hot as Glover.
Pick: Lucas Glover (+115)
