Top 3 MLB Betting Picks for Sunday, September 26 (2021)

Welcome back for another Sunday, friends. This is the penultimate Sunday of the season. Next Sunday is probably going to be a strange one, with most teams resting players and pitchers ahead of playoff matchups or just because they have nothing to play for. But we’ll deal with that when we get there. This Sunday, we still have some normalcy to work with.

Here are my top betting plays for Sunday, September 26. Have questions or want to talk baseball or betting? Feel free to reach out on Twitter @mikeMaher.

The BettingPros consensus odds for this one are +128, but you can get it at +135 on BetMGM. The Angels dropped 14 runs on the Mariners on Saturday and have Shohei Ohtani on the mound for this one. Seattle is still fighting for a playoff spot while the Angels are long out of it, but this Ohtani vs. Marco Gonzalez matchup favors the Angels, especially since they have the hot bats. The consensus moneyline for this one is around -150, which doesn’t feel like a big enough payout, so I’m going bigger and giving up the 1.5 runs to move this to +135.

Jake Odorizzi had actually been pitching well before landing on the injured list with a foot injury. But he didn’t typically pitch deep into games before the injury, and he is unlikely to go more than four or five innings on Sunday. The A’s are countering with Paul Blackburn, who has a 5.17 ERA and has allowed 13 earned runs over his last 15 1/3 innings spanning four starts. After a low-scoring affair on Saturday, I’m expecting these two potent offenses to have success against these starters while also getting into the front-end of both bullpens.

The Indians/Guardians/Cleveland Baseball Team are long out of it, while the White Sox are cruising to a division title. Over the last few weeks, the White Sox have been resting most of their starting pitchers and a number of their position players, even placing some on the injured list to try and get them rested and healthy before a playoff run. For that reason, it is unlikely that today’s starter, Lucas Giolito pitches deep into the game. Cleveland starter Triston McKenzie got lit up for seven runs in his last start, but he had thrown seven consecutive quality starts heading into that game. In the final five games of that stretch, he allowed one or zero runs. You can get this one for +150 on DraftKings Sportsbook, and those odds are worth the gamble with the White Sox on cruise control.
