Tuesday's MLB Best Bets
Here are three MLB game picks for Tuesdayâs slate of baseball action.
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Houston Astros (+122) at New York Yankees (-122) | O/U 8 (-112/-108)
The last time the Astros saw the Yankees, it was four days of misery. They blew leads in some games and played poorly in others. That set up for what's been an awful season, currently being 12-22, with the pitching having a 4.75 ERA. They haven't had Justin Verlander most of the year, so getting him back certainly helps. Although he's pitched well, the Astros are only 1-2 in his starts.
The Yankees have been tough to beat against everyone except their own division. The team is already among the best at runs scored per game and ERA. Now Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Staton are getting hot, and Gerritt Cole could be returning soon. Lucas Gil is in his first full regular season and living up to what the Yankees were hoping for. He's gone five innings and allowed three or fewer runs in three of his last four starts.
Verlander is one of the best pitchers of this century, but recently, heâs had mixed results against the Yankees. Houston is hitting well against lefties, batting .308, so we should see both offenses take over this game.
Pick: Over 8 Total Runs (-112)
Toronto Blue Jays (+120) at Philadelphia Phillies (-142) | O/U 8 (-115/-105)
The Blue Jays are currently playing brutal baseball, as they're 3-9 in their last 12. The lineup has been inconsistent all season, and currently, on this 12-game run, they're hitting .214 with a .624 OPS. While they have a couple of pitchers throwing well, the bullpen has an MLB-worst 5.31 ERA. Jose Berrios has been excellent this year with an MLB-leading 1.44 ERA amongst starters, and while the Jays won his first five starts, they've lost the last two and have only given him one run of support in each.
The Phillies are playing some of the best ball of anyone in the league. They are coming into this game winning six straight and ten of their last 11 as they've moved up into first in the National League East. Looking at Christopher Sanchez's overall numbers, they aren't great, and he is coming off the worst start of the season, but these awful outings have been on the road.
Sanchez has been great in Philly with a 2.12 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 17 innings. You must back the hotter team.
Pick: Phillies Moneyline (-142)
Milwaukee Brewers (+110) at Kansas City Royals (-130) | O/U 9 (-102/-118)
Milwaukee has one of the best lineups this season, as they are seventh in runs per game and eighth in slugging. The pitching has been inconsistent, and that's been evident in their last three games as they have lost back-to-back while pitching to a 5.25 ERA. Colin Rea has been one of their more dependable pitchers, as the team is 6-1 in his starts, and he has allowed three or fewer runs in each of those wins.
Kansas City could be one of the more surprising teams to be in contention this year, as they are just two games behind in the AL Central. The pitching has been a significant reason for their success; last season, their 5.17 ERA was 28th, and this year, their 3.31 ERA is sixth.
Considering how well each pitcher is performing, itâs surprising to see this total being so high. Look to grab the under.
Pick: Under 9 Total Runs (-118)
