Sunday’s Best MLB Player Prop Bets

    (Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Michael King Over 7.5 Strikeouts (-110)

Michael King posted a 27.7% strikeout rate last season, including a 32.5% strikeout rate at home. We’re getting a smash spot at Petco Park versus the Rockies here.

Colorado has put up a 30.4% strikeout rate (30th) against righties so far this year. We’ve seen King show a high ceiling at home. The Padres righty racked up 11 strikeouts in only five innings against the Guardians on April 1st. It’s also worth noting that teammate Nick Pivetta just had 10 punchouts versus these Rockies on Friday.

While it’s a high bar to clear at 7.5 strikeouts, there’s a good chance King winds up with double-digit strikeouts today when you consider it’s the best possible matchup. The Rockies are a mess away from Coors Field, especially in their first series off a home stand, as the a; altitude adjustment impacts their hitters. They have zero runs in this series so far.

Nathan Eovaldi Under 1.5 Walks (-105)

Nathan Eovaldi has demonstrated a strong command throughout his career, putting up a 6% walk rate or better in four of his last five seasons.

The veteran has gotten off to a terrific start this season, issuing only two walks in 19.2 innings, each of which came in his last start against the Cubs. While the Mariners are a tough matchup for walks, posting a 12.3% walk rate versus righties this season, this is a bet on skills over matchup.

The fact we only need to pay a (-105) price on under 1.5 walks from a pitcher with elite command makes this an enticing play. It also helps that T-Mobile Park is the most pitcher-friendly environment in MLB.

Freddy Peralta Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+105)

Freddy Peralta has looked sharp in the early going, registering a 32.8% strikeout rate and a 16.8% swinging-strike rate in his first three starts.

The Brewers righty has racked up 22 strikeouts in 18 innings. In each game, he’s put up at least six strikeouts. Despite this strong production, we’re able to get Peralta over 5.5 strikeouts at plus-money. The reason for this is that oddsmakers are prioritizing the matchup with this line.

The Diamondbacks have an 18.6% strikeout rate against righties this season, which ranks third in the league. But 5.5 strikeouts is a low bar for a pitcher like Peralta. We just saw him put up six strikeouts in a tough environment at Coors Field. When Peralta is on, he is among the most prolific strikeout pitchers, so we’ll take him at this appealing price.
