Top 3 NBA Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions for Wednesday, October 19 (2022)

Following a shallow two-game slate on Tuesday, the NBA is officially back on Wednesday with 12 games in total. As things get underway, all teams are on the same playing field for the last time this season, as all want to get out to a fast start.

Let’s take a closer look at three games I’m keyed in on as the opening tip approaches across the league on Wednesday.

#1. Wizards -1.5 | -110 at DK Sportsbook
If there’s ever hope for success in Washington, it comes at the start of the season. For the first time since being acquired, Kristaps Porzingis will get his first run with a healthy Bradley Beal, who remains one of the best players in the league. I’m also optimistic Rui Hachimura will take another step forward, and while he had a slow preseason, he showed aggression which is something he lacked last season.

As for the Pacers, it’s tough to see much to be excited about, with even Myles Turner likely to be dealt the season if they start slow. With one of the worst rosters in the league, I’ll be fading the Pacers early.

#2. Rockets +10 | -110 at DK Sportsbook
Following a start last season that saw the Rockets lose 11 straight road games last season, they actually showed signs of improvement throughout the year; albeit not resulting in many wins. In this preseason, the Rockets already showed glimpses of their potential, outscoring opponents 32.3 points per 100 possessions in their first quarters.

The story for the Hawks this season will be the meshing of newly acquired Dejounte Murray into a solid core group that’s been together for a while. I do think they get there, but the addition of Murray turns this high-powered offensive unit into one now with a premier defender.

Led by the young and promising Kevin Porter Jr. and Jalen Green, I like for the Rockets to push the pace in this one and give the new-look Hawks issues well into the fourth quarter.

#3. Mavericks +4.5 | -110 at DK Sportsbook
While you can’t draw much from a three-game preseason slate, the Mavericks looked sharp from inside and outside as Luka Doncic looks to take another step forward this season. The addition of Christian Wood should provide them with more depth, and if head coach Jason Kidd decides he can trust him, should continue right away.

As for the Suns, the defense looks improved, but depth is once again a concern with little in the way of proven talent coming off the bench this season. Already considered a top team in the West, I don’t expect this game to mean as much for the Suns as it does for the Mavs, and I think we see a tight game in the fourth quarter, so give me the points.
