Top 3 NHL Odds, Picks & Predictions: Tuesday (2/28)
There's no shortage of action on the ice tonight as the NHL offers up an eight-game schedule. A few games stick out as noteworthy, including a cross-state rivalry between the Panthers and Lightning while the Red Wings and Senators square off for the second time in two nights.
Let's dive into my top three bets in the NHL tonight.

Detroit Red Wings vs. Ottawa Senators
The Senators are playing solid hockey right now, so much so that if they can pick up another two points tonight, they'll wedge their way right into the middle of this log-jammed Eastern Conference Wild Card race. They won last night's game against the Red Wings (64 points) with a 6-2 final, moving them to 62 points on the year. Detroit and Ottawa are two of seven teams separated by seven points or less in the standings, with everyone looking up at New York (I) (69 points) and Pittsburgh (67 points). Tonight's game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET from the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, ON.
There's one factor that sticks out above the rest as these two teams square off for the second night in a row, and that's that Ville Husso gets the nod between the pipes for the Red Wings. Derek Lalonde opted to save his starting netminder for the second night of the back-to-back, giving him an extra day of rest.
The Finnish goaltender is having a great season, posting a 23-14-5 record to go along with a 2.83 GAA and .907 SV%. He's been even better in nine games since the All-Star break, dropping his GAA to 2.23 and increasing the SV% to .926. There's no doubt that Detroit is much more structured when he's in the crease, and I think his presence alone will be enough to secure a much-needed two points tonight. Let's take the Wings as slight underdogs.
Bet: Detroit Red Wings Moneyline (+110 via PointsBet)
Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Buffalo Sabres
The Buffalo Sabres are one of the seven teams vying for a spot in the Eastern Conference Wild Card race. They come into tonight's matchup game with 66 points, sitting just one point outside of the second position. As for the Blue Jackets, they haven't fared well this year, going just 19-35-6, making them the worst team in the East with 44 points. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET from the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, NY.
This young Sabres team should be licking their chops tonight as they compete for their sixth win in the last seven games. They're taking on an abysmal Columbus team that ranks 30th in overall defense (3.6 GAA) and 20th on the penalty kill (77.1%).
Considering Buffalo brings in the league's best offense (3.8 GPG) and sixth-ranked power play (25.0%), I expect the Sabres to light the lamp a plethora of times tonight on their home ice. Buffalo's hitting its stride right now, so coupling the current form with the psychological boost that they may be in a playoff spot by the end of the night, I think the Sabres crush the Jackets in this one.
Bet: Buffalo Sabres (+110 via PointsBet)
Seattle Kraken vs. St. Louis Blues
The Kraken has dropped three straight games, moving them out of a Pacific Division playoff spot and into the Wild Card. They'll have a great opportunity to get back in the win column tonight as they take on a mediocre Blues team. This one's scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET from the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, MO.
It's a fire sale in St. Louis as the Blues' front office continues to offload the core of the team before the March 3rd deadline. So far, they've dealt Vladimir Tarasenko and Niko Mikkola to the Rangers, Ryan O'Reilly, and Noel Acciari to the Maple Leafs. Finally, they just sent Ivan Barbashev to the Golden Knights on Sunday.
It's always mayhem after teams blow it up and trade away key assets, and I don't see why it would be any different in St. Louis this time around. I'm going to lay the juice with the Kraken as they attempt to snap their three-game skid.
Bet: Seattle Kraken Moneyline (-155 via PointsBet)
