Top 7 MLB Player Props for Tuesday, August 9 (2022)

Let’s look at the top player props, odds, and picks for today’s MLB action.

Braxton Garrett: o/u 15.5 Outs

I am fading Braxton Garrett strictly based on his splits. Garrett hasn’t pitched terrible this season, but he has the disadvantage tonight pitching against one of the hottest teams in baseball. The Phillies have won 5 straight and 10 of their last 11 games. Over the course of those 11 games, the Phillies have outscored their opponents by 29 runs.

Garrett has a hard time against right-handed bats. Of his five home runs given up, 4 of them have been to righties, and his ERA jumps from 3.57 (against lefties) to 4.05 (against righties). Left-handed opponents are hitting .164, but righties have an average of .262 against Garrett.

The Pick: u15.5 Outs (-140 DraftKings)

Carlos Carrasco: o/u 5.5 K’s

Carlos Carrasco has been pitching great for the New York Mets. He is coming off a 3-0 July and already notched his first win in August against the Atlanta Braves.

Tonight, Carrasco faces a Reds lineup that has the 4th highest K-Rate this season and the 3rd highest in the last 14 days. He has hit six or more strikeouts in 4 of his last 6 starts.

Back the Cookie Monster tonight and take the over 5.5 K’s

The Pick: o5.5 K’s (-135 DraftKings)

Shane Bieber: To Record a Win

The Detroit Tigers have the highest K-rate (26.7%) and the 4th lowest batting average (.211) over the past 14 days.

Shane Bieber did take a loss against these same Detroit Tigers last month, but since then, he hasn’t given up more than two earned runs in 3 of his last 4 starts.

The Pick: Yes (+100 DraftKings)

Zack Wheeler: o/u 4.5 Hits

After a bumpy start to the season, Zach Wheeler has been on a tear for the Phillies. Wheeler started the 2022 season 1-3 with an ERA of 5.79. Since then, he has gone 9-2 with a 2.14 ERA.

Against RHP, the Miami Marlins are average at best. In 2022 against RHP the Marlins have a .242 average (Ranked 17th) .143 ISO (18th), .305 OBP (20th) and .290 BABIP (16th).

The Pick: u4.5 Hits (+125 DraftKings)

Nolan Gorman: o/u 0.5 RBIs

The St. Louis Cardinals are playing excellent baseball and are one of the league’s hottest teams. The Cardinals are coming off back-to-back sweeps of the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees and have won 8 of their last 10 games.

The Cardinals travel to Coors Field to take on righty Ryan Feltner. Feltner struggles against left-handed-hitters. In the eight games he started in 2022, he has given up seven home runs, six of which came from left-handed hitters.

The Pick: o0.5 RBIs (+100 DraftKings)

Starling Marte: o/u 1.5 Total Bases

Reds left-hander Mike Minor is anything but good. He has a 4.82 SIERA and a lousy 6.57 FIP in 2022.

Starling Marte is one of the Mets’ best hitters against lefties. Martes has accumulated 37 hits which is 6th best in the MLB and has posted a .327 batting average against lefties this season.

The Pick: o1.5 Total Bases (+105 DraftKings)

Seth Brown: o/u 0.5 Base Hits

Seth Brown has not had great success against Ohtani in his career. In 9 career at-bats against Ohtani, Brown has one hit and six strikeouts. Ohtani took a loss last week against these Athletics, and I see this as a revenge spot for Ohtani.

The Pick: u0.5 Base hits (+105 DraftKings)
