Top College Basketball Picks for Wednesday, January 19 (2022)

Last night, I was most confident in North Carolina against Miami. That play went south so quickly. So, despite going 1-2 on the night, it’s time to regroup. There are so many great options tonight I had to cut my list to just my favorite three bets. Let’s get right to it! Here are my picks for January 19, 2022.

Creighton vs. St. John’s: Creighton -3.5

(7:00 PM ET tip)

The Creighton Bluejays have lost two straight to Villanova and Xavier. Neither of those games was pretty, but let’s not forget that Creighton also destroyed Villanova at home and won by 20. It’s always tough to know which Creighton team you’re going to get, but they’ve consistently been solid defensively.

Creighton holds teams to a 45.4 percent effective field goal percentage while limiting opponents’ free throw opportunities. St. John’s, on the other hand, has been very good offensively but continues to struggle defensively, especially on the glass. The Red Storm gives up 32.9 percent offensive rebounds on the year, and that’s been the difference in many games for St. John’s this season.

Creighton is tough to beat when they’re home. If you want to get the moneyline route, that’s fine too.

Virginia Tech vs. NC State: Virginia Tech -115

(7:00 PM ET tip)

Virginia Tech already lost to NC State earlier this year, at home. But in that game, everything was the same but rebounding. NC State won the rebounding battle when Virginia Tech should’ve come out on top analytically. Ultimately, Virginia Tech should win in every category analytically, and maybe that game was just an outlier performance.

Virginia Tech is shooting a 54 percent effective field goal percentage while knocking down 39.3 percent from long range. On the other hand, NC State allows teams to shoot 34.2 percent from long range this season. NC State has also allowed opponents to grab 30.9 percent offensive rebounds on the season. That’s also a below-average number.

Virginia Tech limits opponents to 27.6 percent from three-point range, and NC State is shooting an effective field goal percentage of just 48.4 percent. They’ve been below average from deep and from inside on the season and will have to face an above-average Virginia Tech defense. It’s time for revenge!

Campbell vs. Longwood: Longwood -2.5 (-110)

(7:00 PM ET tip)

Longwood has been impressive this year. The Lancers have won six of their last seven games, with the lone loss coming against Abilene Christian on the road. The Lancers have been able to force 20.9 percent turnovers and should dominate the glass on the defensive end, knowing Campbell is only averaging 24.3 percent offensive rebounds this season.

On offense, again, Longwood dominates the glass. The Lancers are also shooting 36 percent from downtown. Meanwhile, Campbell allows opponents to shoot 35.1 percent from three on the year.

So I like my chances with Longwood at home tonight.
