Top MLB Betting Odds & Picks for Sunday, May 8 (2022)

There aren’t many out there, but to those moms who bet on sports, Happy Mother’s Day! I hope you win all your bets today!

Today’s Sunday slate will feature a couple of doubleheaders. We will dodge the rain in every game but one. The Twins and Athletics game could end up being postponed, but other than that, the weather will hold up everywhere else. That’s exciting news!

Here are my top three bets for the MLB slate on May 8.

Red Sox (-150)

If you’re up early and want an early game to get you through the day. Try the Red Sox. The Red Sox are taking on Dallas Keuchel of the White Sox. He’s a lefty pitcher with a 6.31 xFIP and has more walks than strikeouts to start the season.

I know Boston hasn’t been up to par this season. Against lefties, the group only has a .109 IS. However, Trevor Story, Xander Bogaerts, JD Martinez, and Enrique Hernandez have all had major success against lefties to begin the season. So put your trust in those guys, and they’ll come through today.

On the other hand, Michael Wacha was scratched for Tanner Houck. I’d much rather the young sensation over Wacha!

The Red Sox need to win this game and look like the better team on paper, after all.

Bet: Red Sox (-150 at DraftKings)

Brewers (+110)

The Braves will send out Charlie Morton for another start. So far this year, Morton has declined, and this is the steepest decline we’ve ever seen from Morton. We might actually be past Morton’s prime at this point. Morton has a 6.47 xFIP with 15.8% strikeouts, and 12.2% walks.

Lefties have a .473 wOBA and a .333 ISO against Morton this season. In that Brewers lineup, Kolten Wong, Christian Yelich, and Rowdy Tellez have all hit for power against righties to begin the season.

Meanwhile, the Brewers will pitch a young left-hander in Aaron Ashby. This season, Ashby is earning 27.3% strikeouts and will take on a Braves lineup that has struck out 30.4% of the time against lefties. Ashby will need better command as he will walk plenty, but those strikeout numbers are staggering, which will do the trick.

Bet: Brewers (+110 at DraftKings

Dodgers Over 1.5 First Five Team Total (-145)

Marcus Stroman will take the mound for the Cubs. There are times when he serves up a home run or two, and everyone makes a mistake or two per game.

However, you can make a mistake against a lower-tier team. But not against the Dodgers. Stroman is giving up an ISO of .200 to lefties and .244 to righties and will take on a Dodgers lineup that has combined for a .185 ISO and a .329 wOBA against righties this season.

There’s a ton of power in the Dodgers lineup, and there have been rumors that the MLB might be adding more juice to baseballs when a game is nationally televised. That’s not why I’m on this game, but that could be a helping hand in getting two runs from the Dodgers.

Bet: Dodgers Over 1.5 First Team Total (-145 at DraftKings)
