Top MLB Betting Odds & Picks for Tuesday, September 6th (2022)

At this point, three of MLB’s division races (AL West, NL Central, NL West) are all but over, while the other three divisions are all separated by five or fewer games. Will those teams in the other divisions continue to put pressure on the first-place teams today?

New York Mets vs. Pittsburgh Pirates O/U

If the Mets do not start regaining the offensive momentum that built them a decent cushion in the NL East, the Braves will soon surpass them, as New York starts the day just one game ahead.

The Mets squandered a golden opportunity to keep breathing room between them and Atlanta, as they lost the final two games of a three-game series against the lowly Nationals. While New York’s pitching is largely to blame, as it allowed 14 runs over the last 18 innings, its offense has been just as atrocious, scoring two runs in that span. The Mets put just four runners in scoring position over the weekend’s two games, and an Eduardo Escobar solo home run was their only extra-base hit.

The under has cashed in Pittsburgh’s last five games, as it has totaled just five runs over the previous four. These two offenses rank 20th and 26th in wRC+ over the last seven days, and we expect the poor offensive output to continue.

Bet: Mets-Pirates UNDER 8.5 (-115 at DraftKings)

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Baltimore Orioles RL

If only the Toronto Blue Jays took care of their business at home recently, they could be putting much more pressure on the Yankees in the AL East than they currently are. The Blue Jays lost four of six games in a recent homestand against the Angels and Cubs, two teams that are currently a combined 40 games under .500. However, their play on the road has kept them in the hunt for a division title (5.5 games back to start the day).

Toronto extended its winning streak to five games after sweeping yesterday’s doubleheader against the Orioles by a combined score of 15-7. It was a historic day for Toronto shortstop Bo Bichette, as Stats By Stats on Twitter explained.

Toronto has won eight straight road games and 11 of the last 12. Toronto’s offense has paved the way for the winning streak, averaging 5.6 runs per game in the previous eight road games, and they should have enough offense to back Mitch White (1-5, 4.67) up in case he turns in a poor start.

Bet: Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 Runs (+145 at DraftKings)

Chicago White Sox vs. Seattle Mariners ML

The Mariners currently own a wild card spot after a recent seven-game winning streak. Meanwhile, the White Sox’s only path to a playoff berth appears to be winning the AL Central, and they played like a desperate team last night in snapping Seattle’s streak.

Johnny Cueto (7-6, 2.93) looks to follow Lance Lynn’s stellar performance (7 IP, 3H, 11K). Cueto does not strike many hitters out (5.66 K/9), but he makes up for it with an impressive 1.89 BB/9 rate and the best ground ball rate (44.6%) of any of the team’s starters. The fact that hitters cannot elevate Cueto is also why his HR/9 rate of 0.87 is way better than the league average and barely trails Dylan Cease’s 0.81.

Conversely, Logan Gilbert (11-5, 3.35) has a 4.61 ERA over the last 30 days, and though his 2.75 FIP in that span is impressive, his 4.42 xFIP suggests he has been fortunate.

Seattle is just 3-5 in Gilbert’s last eight starts, so the White Sox are a live underdog tonight.

Bet: Chicago White Sox ML (+130 at DraftKings)
