Top MLB Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions: Wednesday, October 12th (2022)

It did not take long for drama to ensue in the Divisional Series, as Atlanta nearly completed a comeback from a six-run deficit against Philadelphia. In addition, Houston overcame a four-run eighth-inning deficit and beat Seattle on Yordan Alvarez’s walk-off three-run home run when it was down to its last out.

What type of drama are we in store for today?

Here are our best bets for Wednesday’s MLB action. (Odds courtesy of DraftKings)

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Atlanta Braves F5 RL

The Braves may have finished the regular season 14 games better than the Phillies, but their 11-8 head-to-head record and Atlanta’s narrow 88-85 combined lead in those 19 matchups suggested these two teams were evenly matched.

The Phillies have a full-game runline of -195, so we are getting excellent value for them to at least play even with the Braves over the first five innings. We love that Wheeler has more postseason experience and experience in big games in general, unlike Wright, who has allowed eight earned runs on 13 hits in 12.1 innings. This wager also enables us to take a shaky Phillies bullpen (5.2 IP, five earned runs in Game 1) out of the equation and rely on what we expect will be five dominant innings from Wheeler.

Philadelphia’s win percentage increased from .586 after Rob Thomson took over as manager, a significant improvement from its .442 up to that point. That was the fourth-best winning percentage in the National League, and the Phillies also ranked top five in batting average (.257), home runs (147), and run differential (+61) in the league in that span. Philadelphia will continue to be a tough out today.

Bet: Philadelphia Phillies F5 +1.5 (-145 at DraftKings)

San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers O/U

Los Angeles owned San Diego in the regular season, winning 14 of the 19 regular season meetings and outscoring their division rival by 62 runs. However, Yu Darvish pitched brilliantly in Game 1 of the Wild Card round against the Mets (7 IP, 1 ER, 6 H) and will be the great equalizer against a high-powered Dodgers offense today.

Darvish has held the Dodgers to a .190/.275/.371 slash line. His counterpart, Clayton Kershaw, has been equally effective against the opponent, holding San Diego to a .186/.228/.321 slash line. The Padres have won each of Darvish’s last six road starts, allowing nine total runs in that span. In addition, the Under has cashed in four of L.A.’s last five home games and four of its last five against teams with a winning record. Look for those trends to continue in Game 2.

Bet: Padres-Dodgers Under 7 (+100 at DraftKings)
