Tuesday's MLB Best Bets
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Miami Marlins (+160) at New York Yankees (-192) | O/U 8 (-115/-105)
The Yankees are starting off the season strong at 9-2. The Yankeesâ offense is finding ways to get on base, and they are using their power with 13 home runs, but also have plate discipline with the second-most walks (52) and are eighth in OBP (.344). Marcus Stroman's Yankees tenure is starting very well, and he's coming off six shutout innings against the Blue Jays, where he allowed three hits.
It took more than a week at the start of the season for the Marlins to pick up their first win. The pitching has been by allowing seven earned runs or more in six games this season. Ryan Weathers has had two decent starts in losing efforts, but the problem continues to be the control, and he has a walk rate of 11.1%.
This should allow all the Yanks to get a few free passes, and they've been thriving with runners on base all year.
Pick: Yankees -1.5 (+110)
Seattle Mariners (-102) at Toronto Blue Jays (-118) | O/U 8 (-102/-118)
The Blue Jays picked up the win in their home opener. The lineup faired better in this game, but as a whole, they've struggled with only Justin Turner and Davis Schneider hitting over .260, and the pitching has a 5.46 ERA. It's been a great start to the season for Yusei Kikuchi, and he shut down the red-hot Yankees lineup in his most recent start with 5.1 shutout innings and seven strikeouts.
It's been a disappointing start for the Mariners. The team isn't giving themselves a chance to get on base because, just like last year, they are at the bottom in strikeout percentage. Logan Gilbert gets the ball, and it was a spectacular 2023 in terms of the metrics. Right now, he's getting those strikeouts with a 30.4% K-rate this season.
This should be great in terms of pitching matchups, but outside of them, it's hard to trust anyone, so look for a low-scoring game to start.
Pick: Under 3.5 Runs 1st 5 (+120)
Baltimore Orioles (-135) at Boston Red Sox (+114) | O/U 8.5 (-108/-112)
Red Sox fans have not been happy over the past few years as this team sold off their favorites and has finished last in the American League East in back-to-back seasons. They're giving fans hope with a 7-3 start, which is not bad when starting the season on a West Coast trip, but it was against the struggling Athletics, Angels, and Mariners. Nick Pivetta had some of the best numbers of his career last year, including finishing in the 93rd percentile in strikeouts and starting strong this year with a 0.84 ERA.
The Orioles aren't off to a terrible start at 5-4, but they are in third because the Yankees and Sox have started hot. Cole Irvin has to regroup after a tough outing against the Royals by going five innings, allowing four earned in the loss.
It will be in the 60s will low wind so, good conditions should help the ball fly with these offenses.
Pick: Over 8.5 (-108)
