Tuesday’s Best MLB Picks

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Minnesota Twins (+136) @ New York Yankees (-162) | O/U 8 (-102/-118)

The Yankees are coming home after a stellar 9-4 West Coast road trip. The Bronx Bombers’ bats were hot, as they averaged five runs per game, cranked 22 home runs and had a .474 slugging percentage during that trip. No one has been hotter than Aaron Judge, as he’s now the American League MVP favorite, thanks to hitting .381, .500 OBP, 1.415 OPS and 34 RBI in 34 games. If Luis Gil keeps pitching the way he has, he could move up the American League Cy Young race, as he’s fifth (1.99) in ERA and sixth in WHIP (0.95). After an inconsistent April, he was nearly untouchable in May by going 6-for-6 in quality starts, winning all six decisions, with three starts going six scoreless.

The last time the Twins faced the Yankees, they were swept in Minneapolis. It started a seven-game losing streak, which included a sweep by the Guardians. They have fared much better recently, going 9-3, but still have some ground to cover, as they sit six games out of first. The big difference between this season and last year’s division title team is pitching regression. They were sixth in ERA in 2023 (3.87) and are now 19th (4.09).

Bailey Ober is one of the Twins starters who has struggled this year. In his last three starts, he’s allowed 13 earned runs in 14 innings with an 8.36 ERA. You can’t expect Ober to regain momentum against an offense with everyone hitting well.

Pick: Yankees -1.5 (+130)

Kansas City Royals (-105) @ Cleveland Guardians (-115) | O/U 8.5 (-105/-115)

The Royals are the season’s biggest surprise. Kansas City is second in the American League Central and currently has a Wild Card spot. They’ve been great on both sides of the ball, as the offense is fifth in runs and seventh in batting average, while the pitching is ninth in ERA and third in quality starts. Seth Lugo has helped that tremendously; He’s second in ERA at 1.72 with 12 quality starts, including seven straight.

The Guardians are on a hot streak, sitting at 12-3 in their last 15 and building a nice lead in the American League Central. They are another balanced team with a 3.47 ERA and 5.05 runs per game. Triston McKenzie has faced one other team better than the Royals in runs per game (the Yankees) and got hit for five earned runs.

Another number you need to pay attention to is McKenzie’s 4.59 ERA in the first five innings. It could be a rough outing if he struggles against an offense like the Royals that scores through power or a small ball.

Pick: Royals Moneyline (-105)
