Thursday’s Best MLB Picks

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Minnesota Twins (+130) at New York Yankees (-155) | O/U 8.5 (-105/-115)

It’s tough to say the Yankees aren’t the best team in the league. With a league-best seven-straight wins, they are 18-4 in their last 22 and have an MLB-best +115 run differential. You have to keep talking about Aaron Judge because he continues to stay hot; he’s hitting .338, .507 OBP, 1.424 OPS, 17 home runs, and 40 RBI in his last 36 games. Marcus Stroman has been a fantastic pickup for New York and has six quality starts in 12 appearances, including against Minnesota, where he went six scoreless, allowing two hits.

The Twins’ history against the Yankees has never been great. Just this decade, they are 20-7 and have only won one series since 2007. They have already lost this series and are on the verge of the second consecutive sweep against them. Pablo Lopez is on an awful stretch with a 6.65 ERA, and opponents have a .901 OPS.

There’s no sign of the Yanks slowing down in this game, and they should pull out the brooms.

Pick: Yankees -1.5 (+136)

Chicago Cubs (+108) at Cincinnati Reds (-126) | O/U 9 (-115/-105)

The Cubs are an extremely average team. They’ve had extended winning and losing streaks, which puts them at 31-31. Their offensive and pitching stats sit near the middle, including 14th in ERA (3.88) and 14th in runs scored per game (4.37). Javier Assad had a brief stint last year in the rotation, and he was great with the Cubs, going 6-3 in his starts; he had a 2.84 ERA. He’s been one of their top performers besides the unimaginable start to Shota Imanaga’s career.

The Reds are another team that’s been inconsistent. A month ago, they were in the middle of an eight-game losing streak and lost 16 of 21; now, they have won nine of their last 12, including a sweep of the Dodgers and two of three against the Cubs. Are we finally seeing Hunter Greene’s true potential? That fastball is still electric, but he’s getting significantly better movement from that pitch and his slider, which has helped his groundball rate and weak contact percentage.

The Cubs have the sixth-lowest groundball rate in the league, and that, along with the five walks, helped them get five runs off Greene in his last start. This is an excellent spot to take the underdogs.

Pick: Cubs Moneyline (+108)
