Friday’s NBA Best Bets

Boston Celtics (-5vs. Orlando Magic | O/U 223.5 (-110/-110)

The Celtics are coming in as the top team in the league, as they’ve won seven of their past eight and are coming off an exciting victory over the Bucks. All around, this team is incredible, and the deeper you get into the metrics, the better they look. They have the best-adjusted offense and adjusted net scoring, along with the best-adjusted defense.

How hot can the Magic stay? They have five straight wins and six of their last seven, which includes against the Bucks and Nuggets. The offense has really stepped up the last three games with 120 points in each, and last year’s top overall pick, Paolo Banchero, has been stellar with 20+ in each.

The Magic also posed the third-best adjusted defensive ranking, so the defense could dominate this one. Orlando has beaten noteworthy teams, so instead of choosing someone to cover, roll with the under.

Under 223.5 (-110)

Phoenix Sun (-6vs. Memphis Grizzlies | O/U 223 (-110/-110)

Devin Booker is back in the lineup. The Suns are currently on a five-game winning streak where they are averaging 129.4 points. That perimeter shooting is driving this team, as they’re second in three-point percentage.

It’s not good for Memphis, as they’re last in opponents’ three-point shooting percentage. In fact, there isn’t much the Grizzlies are good at this year, as they’re 23rd in adjusted net rating, but they do have the third-hardest strength of schedule.

Memphis is not good at the moment, and catching the Suns playing well, where they have a lot of matchup advantages, will push them to a convincing win.

Pick: Suns -6 (-122)

Denver Nuggets (-3vs. Houston Rockets | O/U 216.5 (-110/-110)

Going into this season, you weren’t circling this matchup, but the Rockets have started off well. They’ve hit a little skid, losing three of five, but defensively, they are still playing fantastically as they’re 13th in adjusted defensive ranking despite having the eight-hardest defensive strength of schedule.

One of those wins was against the Nuggets, as the champs are missing Jamal Murray. They had gone under 60% effective field shooting in seven straight and averaged under 120 points per 100 possessions in six of eight games Murray has missed.

Houston has already proven they can go head-to-head with the big boys, and at home, they can do it again.

Play: Rockets +3 (-108)
