Friday's NBA Best Bets

Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook

New York Knicks vs. Boston Celtics (-7.0) | O/U 220.5 (-112/-108)

The Celtics continue to be the top team in the league with the best adjusted net rating and adjusted defensive rating. Kristaps Porzingis is questionable, as he's missed the past four games with a calf injury. They have been able to get through without him going 3-1 in his absence.

They would love for him to be back in the lineup so they can have someone to match up with against Mitchell Robinson. The Knicks are just as defensively strong as they're third in points allowed per game. In the two games so far, they've held down Boston’s offense, having them score under their 116-point average in both games.

Especially without Porzingus, the Knicks' defense will give them a fighting chance. Take the Knicks getting the points, especially at this number.

Pick: Knicks +7.0 (-110)

Minnesota Timberwolves (-6.5) vs. Memphis Grizzlies | O/U 213.5 (-112/-108)

The Timberwolves have been one of the most surprising teams in the league and come in as the top seed in the Western Conference. One of the big differences is they've found a way to have Rudy Gobert be a pivotal piece of the defense, but the offense has also significantly improved. That includes Anthony Edwards, who could be looked at as a possible MVP candidate.

The good news for the Grizzles is Ja Morant will return in five games. But you wonder how much he will improve them. The defense is good as they're top ten in adjusted defensive ranking, but the offense has been abysmal, scoring the second-fewest points per game, so having Morant back could help.

Two top-ten defenses, with one team that can't score. Even at 214, this is a confident under to take.

Pick: Under 214.5 (-110)

Detroit Pistons  vs. Orlando Magic (-11.5) | O/U 230 (-108/-112)

If you look at the Pistons' recent results, there are a lot of Ls. They come in today with an 18-game losing streak, ten away from tying the NBA record. Statistically, they're one of the worst teams in the league, but they are also one of the youngest teams. With a new coach, this team is going to have growing pains.

You can also sort of negate that evidence because the Magic is the fifth-youngest team in the league and finding success. The defense has been phenomenal to start the season, being third in adjusted defensive rankings, but they've also benefitted from a fairly easy schedule according to the strength of schedule ratings.

Facing the Pistons certainly makes it easier, and when you look at Detroit's upcoming opponents, you definitely see them getting close to that record.

Pick: Magic -11.5 (-110)
