Houston Rockets vs. Orlando Magic

The Orlando Magic have a talented team.

They’ll likely start Markelle Fultz, Jalen Suggs, Franz Wagner, Paolo Banchero, and Wendell Carter Jr. They’ll even have Cole Anthony and Moe Wagner off the bench. But for such a talented team, the Magic have underperformed so much. They earned only 34 wins, with Franz Wagner earning the highest win share of the squad. It wasn’t even Paolo Banchero.

The Magic have had a negative offensive rating as a team since the 2011-2012 team, and nothing will be different this year. The defense might improve slightly, but I’m not high on the Magic.

Meanwhile, the Rockets made a lot of adjustments that will make them better overall. Instead of grabbing James Harden, the Rockets added Frad VanVleet, Dillon Brooks, and Reggie Bullock. They also drafted Amen Thompson and Cam Whitmore and have young talents like Jalen Green, Jabari Smith, and Alperen Sengun.

The depth of the Rockets is night and day. With Ime Udoka as head coach, the Rockets will surprise some folks this season.

Bet: Rockets +4 (-110)

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Brooklyn Nets

Although it’s the season’s first game, several Cavaliers players might not play tonight.

The team’s big man, Jarrett Allen, is officially out with an ankle bone bruise. Meanwhile, Dean Wade is listed as doubtful with an illness. The one questionable player is Darius Garland, who has a left hamstring strain.

I’m sure Garland plays. But if he’s not 100 percent, that could hurt the Cavaliers in this game.

Cleveland brought in Max Strus and Georges Niang. Both are expected to start alongside Evan Mobley, Donovan Mitchell, and Garland.

On the other hand, the Nets have finally moved past the Ben Simmons headache. It seems like he’s truly ready to go. He’s the happiest he’s been in a while and can make significant contributions to the Nets. Brooklyn’s got Mikal Bridges leading the way. Spencer Dinwiddie can also get super hot, along with Cam Johnson. Nic Claxton said he worked on his free throws, and I’d put up the Nets’ bench against Cleveland’s bench any time.

At home, I’ll rock with the Nets at +1.

Bet: Nets +1 (-110)
