Brooklyn Nets at Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks will play in the second game of a back-to-back. However, that first game likely took a toll on them. The total for Atlanta’s previous game against the Pacers hovered over 150. However, those two teams combined for over 300 points in the 157-152 loss to Indiana.

Atlanta has now lost four of their last five games. The defense has allowed 117.6 points per 100 possessions while giving up an effective field goal percentage of 57%. The Hawks are also weak on the defensive glass but should be able to prevent the Nets from getting to the foul line.

On the other hand, the Hawks have become one of the best offenses in the NBA. Atlanta has scored 120.7 points per 100 possessions due to a high effective field goal percentage, offensive rebound rate, and free throw rate.

While the Nets won’t earn many turnovers, Brooklyn has at least been good defensively in other categories. The Nets have held teams to a 53.8% effective field goal percentage and rarely allow offensive rebounds. Opponents have grabbed just 24.3% of offensive rebounds against the Nets this season, which is third-best in the NBA.

The Nets are also top-ten in defensive free throw rate. While the Hawks should still get quality looks, the Nets can do enough on the glass to keep this game close.

Give me the Nets at +4.5.

Bet: Nets +4.5 (-110)

Los Angeles Clippers at San Antonio Spurs

The Clippers already defeated the Spurs on the road, 124-99 on Monday.

This was the second game where Russell Westbrook asked to come off the bench. Since that moment, the Clippers are 2-0 and looking much better as a team.

Los Angeles still has a lot of work to do. The Clippers are still below .500 by a couple of games. But the offense shouldn’t have any problems against San Antonio.

The Spurs have allowed 121 points per 100 possessions on the defensive end. They’ve also given up a 58.1% effective field goal percentage, which is 29th in the NBA. San Antonio won’t earn many turnovers but is at least solid on the defensive glass. That’s about all they’re good for on defense.

Conversely, the Clippers likely don’t get enough credit for their defense. The Clippers have held opponents to 109.5 points per 100 possessions. Opponents have added a 52% effective field goal percentage, and the Clippers have forced 16% of turnovers.

With the Spurs giving the ball up 15.7% of the time and scoring just 108.4 points per 100 possessions, I expect the Clippers to win another blowout game against the Spurs.

Bet: Clippers -8.5 (-110)
