Boston Celtics vs. New York Knicks

The Boston Celtics covered -5 for us yesterday with a 114-106 victory against the 76ers.

Surprisingly enough, the Celtics played their star players over 20 minutes to get the win. Jaylen Brown added 19 on 7-for-10 shooting, while Jayson Tatum didn’t have the same success, shooting just 3-for-13.

However, fresh off his contract extension, Payton Pritchard played 23 minutes and scored a team-high 26 points. Pritchard was electric from downtown and figures to have a more significant role with Boston this season.

Jrue Holiday also came off the bench for the Celtics but still played 22 minutes.

Meanwhile, the Knicks didn’t make many deals over the offseason. What you saw last year is basically what you’ll get this year. A guy like Evan Fournier will treat the preseason as the regular season, hoping he can make the rotation this year.

The only position currently up for grabs for the Knicks is the shooting guard spot. Quentin Grimes started there last season, but Immanuel Quickley or new pick-up Donte DiVincenzo could grab that spot.

New York will have Jalen Brunson, RJ Barret, Julius Randle, and Mitchell Robinson in starting roles for good.

With the Knicks already having plenty of chemistry and the Celtics playing a back-to-back, I’d ride with the Knicks here.

Bet: Knicks -5.5 (-102)

Brooklyn Nets vs. Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers began their preseason action with a loss to the Warriors, 125-108. Anthony Davis led the team with 15 points but only played 13 minutes.

Meanwhile, LeBron James didn’t even play and is a game-time decision for this game, along with Davis.

Max Christie figures to get a lot of minutes off the bench. He wasn’t shy about shooting, taking ten shots in 25 minutes off the bench. Jalen Hood-Schifino is also another guard to pay attention to. He added seven points and six rebounds in 23 minutes but only shot 3-for-11 from the field.

The Lakers have a lot of depth. But that defense and lack of chemistry on the bench could eat them apart.

With James likely out and Austin Reaves getting some rest, the Lakers aren’t as lethal right now.

On the other hand, the talk around Brooklyn is Ben Simmons’ return. He’s already been back in games dating back to last year. But the talk around town is that he’s healthy and making a difference.

It’s unclear if Cameron Johnson and Dariq Whitehead will play. But it sounds like Ben Simmons will give it a go, along with Mikal Bridges and Spencer Dinwiddie.

With the Lakers sitting a lot of talent throughout the preseason, the Nets could steal this game as underdogs.

We might not even see Gabe Vincent, Cam Reddish, and James and Davis in this game. Back the Nets.

Bet: Nets +4.5 (-110)
