NHL Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions: Wednesday (1/11)

We continue approaching the halfway point of the NHL season, and both conferences’ playoff races are heating up. Out west, the Oilers can pick up a much-needed two points tonight against the Ducks while the Kings look to keep the distance in the Pacific as they gear up to host the Sharks.

There are four games on the slate tonight. Here’s what I’m locking in from a betting perspective.

Here are all of our picks for Wednesday:

NHL Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions: Wednesday (1/11)

Washington Capitals vs. Philadelphia Flyers

The Capitals take on the Flyers in a home-and-home set, with one game tonight and the second on Saturday night in the nation’s capital. Tonight’s game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

Washington has been on a tear since the beginning of December, going 13-2-2 over its last 17 games. The Caps have covered the puck line in nine of those 17 contests, and I think they have a great chance to do it again tonight. I’m going to lock in Washington -1.5 in their matchup with Philadelphia.

One of the biggest issues for the Flyers this year has been their offensive production. They come into tonight’s game ranked 27th in scoring (2.8 GPG) and 30th on the power play (15.70%). This isn’t a matchup that bodes well for Philly, as Washington brings in the seventh-best defense in the league (2.51 GAA). With Darcy Kuemper (2.45 GAA, .920 SV%) likely getting the start in net for the Capitals, I think goals will be tough to come by for the Flyers. Look for the Capitals to stretch their lead out by at least two goals tonight.

Bet: Washington Capitals -1.5 (+150)

Edmonton Oilers vs. Anaheim Ducks

The Oilers take on the Ducks tonight in a Pacific Division showdown in Anaheim, Calif. This one gets underway at 10:00 p.m. ET from the Honda Center.

Edmonton has yet to find its footing this year and go on a big win streak. And the Oilers are currently just 4-5-3 in their last 12 games. However, they’ll take on one of the worst teams in the league tonight, and I think this offers a great opportunity to get back on track. Let’s ride with the Oilers on the puck line in this spot.

This is an extremely favorable matchup for Edmonton, who boasts the sixth-ranked offense in the league, scoring 3.5 goals per game. Their power play still ranks No. 1 through the first half, cashing on an impressive 30.97% of man-advantage opportunities. On the flip side, the Ducks are dead last in goals allowed per game (3.93), and they own the 30th-ranked penalty kill (71.43%). In a game where the Oilers need to pick up two points, I feel confident that Connor McDavid (34G, 43A) and Leon Draisaitl (22G, 40A) will take care of business.

Bet: Edmonton Oilers -1.5 (-110)
