Saturday’s NHL Best Bets

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Toronto Maple Leafs (-115) @ Pittsburgh Penguins (-105) | O/U 6.5 (-105/-115)

The Penguins are having trouble finding consistency this season, as they’ve gone on a winning and losing streak. Currently, they’ve dropped three of their last four. As anticipated, the offense is playing well with a 54.22 expected goal percentage, which is good enough for sixth, and they’re 10th in expected goals against. The problem is there are some nights where one of the units doesn’t pull their weight.

The Maple Leafs’ offense is on a run, scoring 17 goals in their last four games, winning each. They will need the offense to play well because the defense has not. They’re 24th by allowing 3.58 goals per game with a .896 save percentage.

Both are efficient offenses and although the Penguins are a great two-way team, this game should still see plenty of scoring.

Pick: Over 6.5 (-105)

Calgary Flames (+145) @ Colorado Avalanche (-175) | O/U 6.5 (-120/+100)

After hitting a bad stretch a couple of weeks ago, the Avalanche are suddenly heating up by going 5-1-0 in their last six. They are averaging five goals per game in this stretch, with Valeri Nichushkin scoring a goal in six straight, with seven total. Cale Makar also had his eight-game assist streak broken last night, and his 24 leads the league.

After a dreadful start to the season, going 2-7-1, Calgary is playing much better, going 6-2-2. The offense has been great all season, being eighth in goals expected per 60. The goaltending has been a problem, but Jacob Markstrom has been improving recently. He played last night, so Dan Vladar will be between the pipes for this matchup. He’s had one bad start that’s inflated his numbers, but other than that, he’s been an efficient backup.

No one is containing the Colorado offense right now, and this is a great matchup for them, especially when everything is going well.

Pick: Avalanche 60-Minutes Moneyline (-125)

Boston Bruins (-118) @ New York Rangers (-102) | O/U 6.0 (+100/-120)

This is a matchup between two fantastic teams playing some of the best hockey in the league.

Last night, the Bruins took a regulation loss to Detroit, which broke their seven-game point streak. The offense has gotten better recently, and they’ve scored five goals in three of their last seven games, but the defense is what makes them great. Both Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark have been tough as they’re fifth and sixth, respectively, in goals allowed per game and fourth and fifth in save percentage.

The Rangers’ defense is also no joke as they’re eighth in goals against above expected and fifth in goals against per 60. Jonathan Quick is filling in well as a backup, as he has had two shutouts in the six starts. He’s also yet to lose in regulation, with 9.3 goals saved above expected.

You have to go back to March of last season for the previous time Boston lost back-to-back games, and they only did it twice. The Rangers are proving to be a great team at home, so bet them to pull off the win in what could be an exciting game.

Pick: Rangers Moneyline (-102)
