Top NHL Odds, Picks & Predictions: Sunday (1/21)
The NHL season is in full gear! Let's highlight a few key games for today, Sunday, Jan 21.
Sunday's NHL Best Bets
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Dallas Stars (-118) at New York Islanders (-102) | O/U 6 (-118/-102)
The Stars are coming in after a defiant game against the Devils in which they coasted to a 6-2 win. Having won five of their last seven, the offense has been their driving force, as they are third in goals scored and ninth in expected goals percentage. With Scott Wedgewood playing last night, they'll get their top goalie Jake Oettinger in the net.
The Islanders were in the headlines as they made a big change. After their loss to the Blackhawks, Lance Lambert was relieved as the coach, and now Patrick Roy will take over. The Isles are scoring under three goals, which is expected from a team that concentrates on their defense, but they're allowing 3.36 goals and 35 shots per game.
Hopefully, this will be a turning point for the Islanders, but donât expect that tonight with how well Dallas is playing offensively, and they have their top netminder in the crease.
Pick: Stars Moneyline (-118)
Ottawa Senators (+114) at Philadelphia Flyers (-135) | O/U 6.5 (-120/+100)
After a brutal stretch of losing eight of ten, the Flyers have rebounded by winning five of their last six. The defense is top-notch, as they are tenth in the goals against the above expectations and allow just 28.6 shots per game. The offense isn't terrible, but it isn't great; they have a couple of talented forwards playing well, like Travis Konecny, Joel Farabee, and Owen Tippett, however, they might need to acquire some more help if they want to be in playoff contention.
It's been a disappointing season for the Senators. They've already made a coaching change but have still struggled to win consistently. Itâs unfortunate because they have some stars on their lines, but they've dealt with injuries, and goaltending has been awful.
Phillyâs offense should be good enough to have a few goals tonight, and with that defense, they can grab a puckline win at home.
Pick: Flyers -1.5 (+180)
Minnesota Wild (+160) at Carolina Hurricanes (-192) | O/U 6.5 (-118/-102)
The Hurricanes are a team that has so many ways to beat you. They are allowing a shade under three goals, but this blue has been exceptional all season, allowing just 25 shots per game. The depth they have on offense is always what makes them great: six players with ten or more goals and nine with 25 or more points.
We knew the Wild wouldn't have a good offense, but that didn't make them a playoff team last year. They were getting outstanding performances from Marc-Andre Fleury and Filip Gustavsson as a tandem last season, but this year, it hasn't happened. Gustavsson has especially struggled, allowing 3.34 goals per game and -2.3 goals saved above expected.
Carolina will have the advantage during every shift, and if Minnesota canât get good goaltending, this will be an easy win for the Canes.
Pick: Wild -1.5 (+124)
