Top NHL Odds, Picks & Predictions: Tuesday (1/9)

The NHL takes center stage tonight as college football has come to a close and the NFL schedule is starting to thin out. I've got you covered if you're looking for some action tonight. Let's dive into how I'm betting tonight's 10-game slate on the ice.

Tuesday’s NHL Best Bets

Anaheim Ducks (+192) vs. Nashville Predators (-235) | O/U 6.5 (-105/-115)

The Ducks continue to struggle as they've now dropped their past five games. They'll make the trip to Tennessee to square off against the Predators, who are 3-1-0 in their past four games. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN. 

Anaheim's offense has been horrendous over the five-game slide, managing to score just eight total goals (1.6 GPG). Surprisingly, that's not too much lower than their overall goal output this season, where they're averaging only 2.5 goals per game (29th). Their power play is also cashing just 18.85% of the time, which is good enough for 19th in the NHL. 

The Ducks have been an "under team" all season, seeing the under go 22-16-1 over their 39 games. As for the Preds, they've split their totals 20-20 to the over and under. Their offense, while it can break out at times, is still just 18th overall in scoring this season (3.1 GPG). I think we're in for a boring, slower-paced game where we don't get a ton of scoring. I'll play the under in Nashville tonight. 

Bet: Under 6.5 (-115)

Columbus Blue Jackets (+196) vs. Winnipeg Jets (-240) | O/U 6.5 (+100/-120)

The Jets return home after going 3-0-0 on their West Coast road trip. They've now won their past six games overall. As for the Blue Jackets, they're 2-2-4 in their past eight games. This cross-conference showdown is set for 8:00 p.m. ET from Canada Life Center in Winnipeg, MB. 

The play here is the under on Columbus' team total, which is currently 2.5 goals at Caesars. The Blue Jackets are a bottom-half offense, scoring just 3.0 goals per game (22nd). While three goals would be enough for us to lose our bet, I don't anticipate them finding much success against this vaunted Jets defense.

Winnipeg is looking like a force right now. They're four lines deep and constantly put pressure on their opponents. Just ask the Coyotes, who managed only 17 shots on goal against the Jets in their previous game. During Winnipeg's six-game win streak, they've limited every opponent to two goals or fewer. They're now the league's top defense, conceding just 2.28 goals per game. I think they stonewall Columbus tonight. 

Bet: Columbus Blue Jackets TT Under 2.5 (-125)

Ottawa Senators (+110) vs. Calgary Flames (-130) | O/U 6.5 (-130/+110)

Finally, let's head out to Alberta where the Flames host the Senators in a Canadian battle. Ottawa is just 14-21-0 (28 points) this season, which is last place in the Atlantic Division. Meanwhile, the Flames are sixth in the Pacific, owning a record of 17-18-5 (39 points). Puck drop is slated for 9:00 p.m. ET from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, AB. 

Jacques Martin took charge of the Senators on Dec. 19, and his squad is just 3-6-0 in his first nine games. That includes the current three-game slide, where they've been out-scored 13-5 on their West Coast road trip. The Sens come into tonight's game ranked 30th defensively, allowing 3.49 goals per game. Their penalty kill is dead last, posting a mark of 70.94%. 

So, I'm not overthinking this one, I'll lay the juice with the Flames in their home barn. They're 9-7-1 at home, which isn't great overall, but that's good enough for 52.9% of their wins. It'll be Calgary's first game at home after returning from a four-game road trip (2-2-0). I like the Flames to take care of the floundering Senators tonight.
