Top NHL Odds, Picks & Predictions: Tuesday (11/28)
Weâre roughly a quarter of the way through the NHL season, and weâre starting to get a good idea of how teams are shaping up. Thereâs a big slate of games on the ice tonight, which sees 20 teams in action. That leaves us with a ton of different betting options, but Iâve narrowed in on my top three plays below. Letâs dive into my three best bets for tonightâs 10-game schedule in the NHL.
Tuesdayâs NHL Best Bets
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
St. Louis Blues (+136) vs. Minnesota Wild (-162) | O/U 6.5 (-110/-110)
Some of the big news coming out yesterday involved the Wild, as the organization decided to move on from head coach Dean Evason. Theyâll move forward with John Hynes, who was previously with New Jersey and Nashville. Hynes will have a familiar foe in his first game behind the bench as his new club hosts Central Division rival St. Louis. This game is slated for 8:00 p.m. ET from Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Despite riding a seven-game losing streak, the Wild find themselves as a sizable favorite tonight. I hate to lay this much juice, but I will considering the circumstances. I think we get a big bounce tonight from Minnesota as they rally behind their new coach. Iâll take the Wild to win outright.
Iâm still not completely sold on St. Louis right now, and theyâll likely end up being a middle-of-the-pack team in the Western Conference. Theyâre just 21st in goals per game (3.0 GPG) and 16th in goals against per contest (2.95 GAA).
The downfall for Minnesota this season has been its penalty kill, which is dead last at 66.67%. Look for them to get back to the basics under a new head coach. Theyâll have a favorable matchup to implement new strategies tonight as St. Louis is just 30th on the power play (9.84%). I like Minnesota to regroup and collect the two points tonight.
Bet: Minnesota Wild Moneyline (-162)
Vegas Golden Knights (+110) vs. Edmonton Oilers (-142) | O/U 6.5 (-105/-115)
The marquee matchup of the night is a Pacific Division clash between the Golden Knights and the Oilers. These two teams are very familiar, having just faced off in this past yearâs Stanley Cup playoffs. Vegas won the second-round matchup 4-2 en route to hoisting the Cup. This divisional showdown is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET from Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.
After a slow start to the season, the Oilers appear to finally be finding their footing for the new campaign. Theyâve been red-hot offensively as of late, averaging 4.4 goals per game over their last eight contests. You think that would lead to a pretty immaculate record, right? Well, theyâre just 5-3-0 over the eight-game sample. Thatâs because Edmonton simply cannot keep the puck out of their own net. Theyâre still 30th in goals against per game this season (3.50 GAA).
So, Iâm not going to overthink this one, and Iâll play the Over tonight in Alberta. Since the aforementioned eight-game sample started on November 11th, Edmonton has three of the top seven scorers in the league in Connor McDavid (5G, 10A), Leon Draisaitl (4G, 9A), and Zach Hyman (8G, 4A). This power play is heating up as theyâre now ranked sixth in the league (25.68%).
On the flip side, the Golden Knights are ranked 18th in goals per game (3.0 GPG) and 11th on the power play (22.08%). I think we see the big guns come out for Edmonton tonight, and Vegas has the fundamental offensive ability to keep pace against a bottom-tier opposing defense. Letâs sit back and watch these two dynamic offenses go to work.
Anaheim Ducks (+195) vs. Vancouver Canucks (-238) | O/U 6.5 (-115/-105)
The nightcap in the NHL features another Pacific Division showdown as the Ducks make the trip to British Columbia to square off against the Canucks. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. ET from Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
Vancouverâs still on a tear offensively this season, boasting the leagueâs best shooting percentage at 13.54%. Their power play is clicking as well, cashing on 30.00% of man-advantage opportunities (4th). I donât anticipate things slowing down tonight against an Anaheim side thatâs 26th in goals against per game (3.29 GAA).
Iâm expecting at least seven goals in this game tonight, so Iâm locking in the over. The Canucks are 14-6-2 to the over this season, which is the second-best in the NHL. Meanwhile, the Ducks have seen five of their nine road games go over the total. Vancouverâs defense has regressed recently as theyâve surrendered 20 goals over the last six games (3.33 GAA). While reality may be kicking in for the Ducks, considering their current six-game slide, I still expect them to light the lamp a couple of times tonight. This should be a high-paced game with a ton of scoring â give me the over!
