Top NHL Odds, Picks & Predictions: Tuesday (2/6)
The NHL returns after an entertaining All-Star Break, and the league rolls out an eight-game slate tonight. I've got you covered from a sports betting standpoint for tonight's action.
Let's dive into where I'm laying my money on the ice.
Tuesdayâs Best NHL Bets
(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)
Vancouver Canucks (+116) @ Carolina Hurricanes (-142) | O/U 6.5 (-102/-120)
The Canucks open up the second half of the season with a five-game road trip, where they'll make stops in Carolina, Boston, Detroit, Washington and Chicago. They're currently first in the entire league with 71 points. As for Carolina, they enter tonight's game at 28-15-5 (61 points), which is good enough for second in the Metropolitan Division. This cross-conference showdown is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET from PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C..
While Vancouver has been excellent on both ends, there's no denying that their offense has been the driving force of their success this season. They enter tonight's game ranked first in scoring (3.8 GPG) and eighth on the power play (25.00%). In their last 11 games, the Canucks are averaging 3.9 goals per game, and the totals are seeing 6.5 combined goals per game. Eight of those 11 contests have seen at least seven goals.
As for the Canes, they bring in the league's second-best power play, cashing 27.95% of their man-advantage opportunities. Carolina is currently eighth in scoring, lighting the lamp 3.4 times per game. Ultimately, these are two offensive-minded teams, and I think we see their skills on display tonight. I'm taking the over in Raleigh.
Bet: Over 6.5 (-102)
Colorado Avalanche (-113) @ New Jersey Devils (-105) | O/U 6.5 (-115/-105)
The Avalanche will be taking the ice for the second time already since the All-Star Break concluded. They dropped a 2-1 overtime game with the Rangers last night. Colorado maintains the top spot in the Central Division at 32-14-4 (68 points). On the other hand, New Jersey comes into this game at 24-20-3 (51 points), which puts them sixth in the Metro. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET from the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
I'm also expecting a ton of goals tonight in Newark as two of the top "over teams" go head-to-head. Colorado has seen the over cash at a rate of 30-20 (third), while New Jersey is right behind them at 29-18 (fourth). The Avs bring in the league's second-best offense, averaging 3.8 goals per game. The Devils are 10th in scoring this season, adding 3.4 goals per contest.
Honestly, I think there's a chance the Avs put up five or six goals tonight. They go from taking on a respectable New York defense last night to squaring off against New Jersey, who is conceding 3.26 goals per game this year (27th). We knew heading into the season that the Devils would have defensive issues. Add in injuries to Dougie Hamilton and Jonas Siegenthaler, and New Jersey has completely unraveled on the backend. Look for a constant offensive barrage from Colorado, which should lead this game over the total.
Bet: Over 6.5 (-115)
Edmonton Oilers (-140) @ Vegas Golden Knights (+116) | O/U 6.5 (+100/-120)
The NHL nightcap features a Pacific Division tilt as the Oilers square off against the Golden Knights. Despite a 16-game win streak for Edmonton (59 points), they're still looking up at Vegas (64 points) in the standings. This game gets underway at 10:00 p.m. ET from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
I've been very impressed with how Kris Knoblauch has turned around this Edmonton team. They've been excellent on both ends of the ice, and they're finally holding up in their defensive zone. The Oilers have surrendered two or fewer goals in 14 straight games. Mainly, it has been Stuart Skinner who has emerged in the crease. He's confirmed to start tonight, and the 25-year-old went a perfect 9-0-0 in January while posting a 1.33 GAA and .953 SV%.
That said, I think goals will be at a premium in this divisional matchup. I'm locking in the under. As for Vegas, it's unconfirmed who will get the nod in-net tonight, but considering the All-Star Break layoff, I would assume we'll see Adin Hill between the pipes. As great of a story as Skinner has been this season, Hill has been equally as dominant when healthy. He's 12-2-2 with a 1.94 GAA (first) and .936 SV% (first). Give me the under in Sin City tonight with these two red-hot netminders.
Bet: Under 6.5 (-120)
