Top NHL Odds, Picks & Predictions: Wednesday (11/15)
It's just a slim four-game slate in the NHL tonight, but there are still a few interesting games on the docket.
The night opens up on the East Coast as the Flyers square off against the Hurricanes. It then heads west as the Oilers host the Kraken. The Ducks take on the Avalanche, and the nightcap features a battle between the Islanders and Canucks.
Below, I dive into three of the four matchups and lock in a best bet for each. Let's check out where I'm putting my money on the ice tonight!
Wednesdayâs Best NHL Bets
(Odds courtesy of Caesars Sportsbook)
Seattle Kraken (+158) @ Edmonton Oilers (-190) | O/U 6.5 (-125/+105)
The Kris Knoblauch era in Edmonton got off to a roaring start on Monday, as the Oilers secured a 4-1 win against the Islanders in his first game behind the bench. They'll look to make it two in a row as they host the Kraken tonight. This Pacific Division showdown is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET from Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.
These two sides just played on the Nov. 11, a game the Oilers won 4-1. I think we'll get a bit more scoring tonight, so I will play the over. It's only a matter of time before Edmonton finds its footing and starts trending upward. Through the first 14 games (4-9-1), they're ranked just 26th in the league in scoring, averaging just 2.8 goals per game. However, they're sixth in expected goals per 60 minutes at 3.55. Eventually, this top-heavy group will find the back of the net more often. It's worth noting that the Oilers have scored eight combined goals in their last two games, so they may be on their way to recovering their dominant offensive ability.
As for Seattle, they'll have a favorable matchup against an Edmonton defense that's in shambles. Whether it has been the recently-relegated Jack Campbell or Stuart Skinner in net, the Oilers haven't been able to stop anybody. Skinner is just 3-5-1 out of the gate with a 3.27 GAA and .876 SV%. Look for the Kraken to light the lamp a few times tonight to help this game go over the total.
Bet: Over 6.5 (-125)
Anaheim Ducks (+240) @ Colorado Avalanche (-305) | O/U 6.5 (-110/-110)
The Ducks (9-6-0) continue to be one of the surprise teams of the NHL this season. They've won eight of their last 10 games, which includes a 3-2 victory over the Predators last night. They'll make the flight over from Nashville to take on the Avalanche tonight. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET from Ball Arena in Denver, Colo.
I'm also locking in the over in this Western Conference showdown tonight. Coloradoâs goaltending has been a little shaky to start the new campaign. The duo of Alexandar Georgiev and Ivan Prosvetov have combined to post a 3.14 GAA and .892 SV%. Anaheim's offense is filled with young, quality skaters who should be able to score a few goals in this spot. They're currently 13th in team shooting percentage (10.73%) and average 3.1 goals per game (20th).
If the Ducks run into any issues on the second night of the back-to-back, those problems will likely come on the defensive end. If so, the Avs should light up the scoreboard tonight. They're ninth in the league in goals per game (3.4), and they rank first overall in expected goals per 60 minutes at 3.98. Factor in the home-ice advantage, and I think Colorado puts up at least four goals tonight. I'm taking the over in the Mile High City.
Bet: Over 6.5 (-110)
New York Islanders (+135) @ Vancouver Canucks (-160) | O/U 6.0 (-120/+100)
The NHL slate wraps up out west, where the red-hot Canucks host the floundering Islanders. New York enters this game at 5-6-3, while Vancouver is currently 11-3-1. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. ET from Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The Isles come into this cross-conference showdown riding a five-game losing streak. The four recent losses have come by at least two goals. So, I'm not going to overthink this one, and I'll lay the 1.5 goals with the Canucks in this spot.
Vancouver has been sharp on both ends of the ice this season, ranking first in goals per game (4.4) and fourth in goals against per contest (2.20). They have an insane 15.17% shooting percentage, which is more than 3% higher than the second-best team (DET, 12.06%). The power play is also absolutely humming, cashing at a rate of 31.58% (3rd). Considering the Isles have surrendered an average of 4.2 goals per game over their recent five-game slide, I think the Canucks keep rolling here.
Bet: Vancouver Canucks -1.5 (+158)
