Top NHL Odds, Picks & Predictions: Wednesday (11/2)

There’s just a pair of games on the ice tonight, and they’re both Eastern Conference battles. First, the Flyers head to Toronto as a massive underdog (+280) to take on the Maple Leafs at 7:00 p.m. ET. Then the Penguins get going 30 minutes later as they attempt to snap a five-game losing streak against a Sabres team that’s playing very well to start the new season. I’m locking in a bet for each game – let’s dive in!

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Toronto Maple Leafs

The Flyers have picked up points in three straight games but have dropped two straight overtime contests. Their most recent loss came last night at the hands of the Rangers in a 1-0 affair. The Leafs return home after a rough west coast road trip where they went 1-2-2 with losses to the Golden Knights, Sharks, Kings, and Ducks. They’ll look to bounce back tonight in this Eastern Conference clash scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET from Scotiabank Arena.

One of these teams will end their losing streak tonight, and I’m banking on the Maple Leafs to get the win. While I’m impressed with what John Tortorella and his guys in Philly have accomplished so far, I believe this Toronto roster is just too talented to have another letdown. They have to figure things out offensively at some point, and what better time than against a backup goaltender in Felix Sandstrom? Sandstrom comes into tonight’s game at 0-2-0 with a 3.14 GAA and .900 SV%. In one road start this season, he gave up four goals on 36 shots to the Panthers.

One bright spot for Toronto has been their power play unit. They’re currently ranked 10th in the NHL with a 24.32% conversion rate. If they can get draw a couple of penalties throughout this game, they should have the opportunity to stretch out the lead and cover the puck line. Let’s ride with the Leafs at home against a Flyers team that comes in on the second night of a back-to-back.

Bet: Toronto Maple Leafs -1.5 (-127 via BetRivers)

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Buffalo Sabres

The vibes cannot be high in Pittsburgh after they dropped their fifth straight game last night. They lost the game, blew a 5-2 lead to the Bruins, and lost 6-5 in overtime. The Penguins will attempt to bounce back tonight against a scrappy Sabres team that’s had a lot of success early this year. This game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET from the KeyBank Center in Buffalo.

Buffalo’s currently riding a two-game win streak with victories over the Blackhawks and Red Wings, most recently. They’ve scored 12 goals over those two wins, which is not an anomaly at this point. The Sabres are the second-ranked offense this year in terms of scoring (4.1 gpg), and they’re also 12th on the power play (23.53%). They’ll likely be running into Casey DeSmith tonight, as Tristan Jarry was between the pipes last night for the Penguins. This young Sabres team has plenty of offensive firepower to outpace Pittsburgh. Let’s ride with them as slight underdogs tonight.

Bet: Buffalo Sabres Moneyline (+110 via BetRivers)
