Los Angeles Angels @ Tampa Bay Rays

The Rays had a rough start to the season, but they've been playing better lately and are 4-2 in their last six. They've been struggling to adjust to all the injuries, especially to the starting rotation. Aaron Civale is one of the starters who has been helping this depleted staff; he's allowed two or fewer runs in each of his three starts, including against the Angels in a win.

The Angels are only 8-8, but with the AL West struggling as a whole, and they are only a half-game out of first. They've lost four of their last five, and their pitching has been especially bad, with a 4.40 ERA in that span. Jose Soriano's previous start in the last series against Tampa Bay didn't go so well. He pitched four innings and allowed four earned runs in the loss.

Civale has been one of Rays more dependable pitchers and he could help the team beat the Angels in back-to-back starts.

Pick: Rays Moneyline (-155)

NBA Best Bets

Los Angeles Lakers @ New Orleans Pelicans

Unfortunately, the winner of this game will have to play the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. Knowing that the Nuggets are the defending NBA Champions, that won’t be easy. That said, I don't think either team actually tries to lose this game for the No. 8 seed for a chance to play the Thunder instead.

The Pelicans just lost to the Lakers on Sunday, 124-108. In that game, New Orleans shot a 56.8% effective field goal percentage. However, they were beaten in all other areas. The Pelicans turned the ball over 17.9% of the time and grabbed 21.4% of offensive rebounds. New Orleans also didn't get to the foul line at a high rate in the loss.

Meanwhile, the defense wasn't up to par either. The Pelicans allowed the Lakers to score 128.4 points per 100 possessions and gave up a much higher effective field goal percentage of 64.5%. The Lakers didn't do well on the offensive glass and typically also turn the ball over at a higher rate. However, the difference for the Lakers is the free throw attempts. The Lakers should win the battle at the line against the Pelicans, even on the road.

In the regular season, the Lakers beat the Pelicans three of four times. After watching Sunday, the Lakers will likely be more prepared. Let's take the Lakers at -110 on the moneyline.

Bet: Lakers (-110)

NHL Best Bets

Detroit Red Wings @ Montreal Canadiens

The Red Wings erased a 4-1 deficit against the Canadiens in Motown last night, clawing all the way back and winning 5-4 in overtime. The win kept their playoff hopes alive, where they're currently tied with the Capitals (89 points) for the final wild card spot in the East. This home-and-home series shifts back to Montreal, and it's set for 7:00 p.m. ET from the Bell Centre in Quebec City.

You just have to wonder how demoralizing it is for the Habs to blow a three-goal lead when they could've put the nail in the coffin on the Wings' season. Now they have to take the ice tonight, knowing Detroit just smoked them over the final 25 minutes of last night's game. Meanwhile, the vibes must be incredibly high in Detroit's locker room, and they'll be carrying the momentum into tonight's game.

I won't be surprised if this game is a blowout tonight in Montreal. Rather than lay 1.5 goals with the Wings, I'll take them to win this game in regulation at even money. Not only do they have the edge in the intangibles (momentum, something to play for, etc.), Detroit's also better in overall offense (3.3 GPG vs. 2.8), overall defense (3.16 GAA vs. 3.25), on the power play (23.08% vs. 17.67%) and in penalty killing (79.32% vs. 76.45%). Let's take the Wings to win in regulation.

Bet: Detroit Red Wings 3-Way Moneyline (+100)
