MLB Best Bets

Detroit Tigers (+184) at Cleveland Guardians (-220) | O/U 7.5 (-110/-110)

The AL Central looks like it could be a three-team race. The Tigers could be a part of that if they continue the same pace, being just 2.5 games behind and having won six of their last seven. Michael Lorenzen is coming off his first quality start by going seven innings and allowing just one earned.

Cleveland is currently playing very shaky baseball, losing six of their last nine. The pitching staff is doing all they can, but the offense has not been able to get it going, and the team that tries to generate runs through small ball is 27th in BABIP. Shane Bieber is pitching great, but he's due for a regression. His current ERA is 2.96, but his expected ERA is 4.86, and most of his metrics are below the 40th percentile.

I like the bats right now for the Tigers, and that regression for Bieber starts in this outing. I'll take the road dogs.

Pick: Tigers Moneyline (+184)

NBA Playoffs Best Bets

Philadelphia 76ers at Boston Celtics

The Celtics haven't had the best clock management in this series. That ultimately led to the 76ers escaping Game 4 with an overtime victory.

It took everything from the 76ers to win on their home floor against the Celtics. Boston shot the ball better but took 10 more threes in the game. The Celtics earned more assists, added the same amount of rebounds, and blocked nine more shots than the 76ers.

Boston also took advantage of the 76ers in transition, scoring 22 fastbreak points compared to Philadelphia's nine. Boston had trailed by 16 at one point in the game. However, the Celtics were able to give themselves a chance to win in Game 4 anyway.

This series probably comes down to James Harden and how effective he can be for the rest of the series. He's been dominant in Games 1 and 4. Those were the two games that the 76ers won. In the other games, he's been ice-cold and rarely makes plays. Knowing Harden's track record this season, I doubt he'll put on a show against the Celtics on the road.

In his last road game against Boston, with Embiid in the lineup, he shot 2-for-14 from the field in 32 minutes. That's more like him. I'll take the Celtics to cover -7.5.

Bet: Celtics -7.5 (-110)

NHL Playoffs Best Bets

Carolina Hurricanes (+130) vs. New Jersey Devils (-150) | O/U 5.5 (-110/-110)

The Devils bounced back in Game 3 when they smoked the Hurricanes 8-4 on Sunday afternoon. New Jersey now trails the series 2-1, and they'll look to even things up tonight. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.

The oddsmakers are very stubborn with their total in this series as they continue to set the line at 5.5 goals. All three games have cleared the 5.5-goal threshold, and we've seen 25 combined goals thus far. I'm not going to be the guy to bet against the trend tonight, although I think things may tighten up later in the series if we see a Game 6 or 7. I'm taking the over in Game 4.

New Jersey clearly has an issue in net, as they've used both Akira Schmid and Vitek Vanecek through three games. I would assume since Vanecek secured the win in Game 3, that he'll get the nod between the pipes tonight. Well, to be frank, I don't think the Czech-born netminder is of Stanley Cup caliber at this juncture of his career. Vanecek comes into tonight's game at 1-2-0 with a 4.02 GAA and .845 SV% in three starts and six overall appearances.

With how aggressive the Canes' forecheck is and how much more physical they are, I think we'll see the puck in New Jersey's zone a lot, which will hypothetically lead to more scoring chances. Look for the Hurricanes to light the lamp a few times while the Devils do what they do best - play offense and score goals. Let's play the over.

Bet: Over 5.5 Goals (-110)
