Detroit Lions Chicago Bears

Detroit and Chicago faced off in Week 11, where the Lions came away with the 31-26 win. The Bears had a 20-14 lead after three quarters so I can understand why this line is only -3.0. Three weeks ago they played a close game, so it is reasonable to think this game could be close too.

Still, this is a 9-3 Lions team against a 4-8 Bears team. The Bears had a bye in Week 13 and beat Minnesota 12-10 in Week 12. I can see all the reasons why this might be a close game. I just don’t believe it.

The Lions, 49ers and Cowboys are all one game behind the Eagles for the top seed in the NFC. The Lions have a lot to play for as far as playoff positioning goes with a potential first-round bye within reach. My money will be on Dan Campbell having his Lions ready to make a statement in Chicago in Week 14.

Bet: Lions -3 (-115)

Phoenix Suns @ Los Angeles Lakers

The Suns won’t have Bradley Beal for this game. He’s making progress but is unavailable for this matchup. That’s hurt the TSuns a bit.

Phoenix has only shot a 54.5% effective field goal percentage, which is 17th in the NBA. They’re great at getting to the foul line and dominating the offensive glass. However, the Lakers are one of the best teams at keeping opponents off the foul line.

Los Angeles has also forced teams to a 53.1% effective field goal percentage and are defensively top-10 in points per 100 possessions.

On the other hand, the Lakers should see the foul line more frequently. But unlike the Suns, the Lakers won’t dominate the offensive glass. It’s still likely that Los Angeles shoots at a higher percentage from the floor. However, the Suns should get more offensive rebounds and second chances.

The Over 228.5 makes the most sense in this matchup.

Bet: Over 228.5 (-110)

#23 Wisconsin @ Michigan State

For two teams heading in exactly opposite directions early on this season, tonight is the perfect bounce-back opportunity for Tom Izzo’s squad. Still, I wouldn’t be so confident.

Sparty’s shooting this year has been atrocious: The team’s sub-27% shooting percentage from beyond the arc ranks 332nd in the nation. The Badgers’ propensity to force turnovers while limiting offensive boards and second-chance looks makes me quite concerned about Michigan State’s ability to score. Both teams limit the transition, while Michigan State’s perimeter defense is one of the best in the nation. Scoring will be at a high premium tonight.

I understand how low this total already is, but I expect the first team to reach 60 points to win this one. Each squad ranks sub-300 in the pace of play this year. Wisconsin held Virginia to 18 first-half points, and Michigan State’s offense ranks outside the top 60.

Don’t expect this to be the most exciting game to watch. There will be scoring droughts and shot clock violations plenty in East Lansing, Mich. I anticipate Wisconsin to keep it close in a low-scoring affair.

Bet: Under 131.5 (-108)
