San Francisco 49ers vs. Kansas City Chiefs (Super Bowl LVIII)

Now, it’s early in the off week, and my opinion can definitely change as I dive deeper into the game. Still, there are a few reasons why I lean toward Kansas City as a short underdog:

  1. I question whether San Francisco can generate enough pressure against an elite Chiefs offensive line that led the league in Pass Block Win Rate.
  2. I believe Kansas City has the better coaching staff, as I was hardly impressed by the NFC Championship game plan from Kyle Shanahan and Steve Wilks.
  3. I’ll take Patrick Mahomes over Brock Purdy in a one-game sample size every time.

Now, that’s not to say this is a slam dunk. My homework during the week off will be to look into how Kansas City can sustain drives and whether they can contain this loaded 49ers’ offense. But right now, I’m leaning with the Chiefs.

Bet: Chiefs Moneyline (+100)

Utah Jazz @ New York Knicks

The Utah Jazz and New York Knicks will play in their second game in as many days tonight. The Jazz just lost to the Nets, 147-114, while the Knicks added a 113-92 win over the Charlotte Hornets.

Utah is in the middle of a long road trip, which showed last night. They turned the ball over 17 times and allowed the Nets to get up to as many as 35 points in the loss.

On the other hand, the Knicks added their 30th win with a near-20-point victory on the road. Julius Randle is out with a dislocated shoulder, and OG Anunoby also sat out with right elbow inflammation. Still, Jalen Brunson took over and helped lead the Knicks in that game.

The Jazz ultimately dominated the offensive glass, earning 32.2% of offensive rebounds. But those second chances likely won’t come as often because the Knicks have allowed only 24.8% of offensive rebounds per game this season. Utah is also dead last in turnover percentage, giving up the ball 15.7% of the time. The Knicks should capitalize on some of the Jazz’s mistakes.

On the other hand, the Knicks have added 32.5% of offensive rebounds. That’s the best rate in the NBA. With the Jazz allowing 27.2% of offensive rebounds, New York figures to add more second-chance points in this one. Let’s grab the Knicks at -4.5 at home.

Bet: Knicks -4.5 (-110)

Columbus Blue Jackets @ St. Louis Blues

The Blue Jackets’ ugly season continues as they enter tonight’s game amid a 1-3-1 stretch. They’ll take on a frisky Blues side that has climbed up to fourth in the Central Division with 54 points. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET from the Enterprise Center in Saint Louis.

St. Louis has rattled off five straight victories, which is why they’ve catapulted back into the playoff race. I’ll back the Blues on the puck line at home, where they’ve gone 15-8-1 this season. Over the five-game winning streak, they’re averaging 3.8 goals per game. This will be another favorable matchup against a Columbus defense that’s 30th in the league (3.49 GAA).

It’s also worth noting that Columbus will be without Adam Fantilli, who suffered a leg injury in Sunday’s 4-2 loss to the Kraken. Normally, I wouldn’t base my handicap of a game on one injury, but Fantilli has been their second-best scorer with 27 points (12G, 15A). With him and Patrick Laine sidelined, I’m wondering where the goal production will come from for the Blue Jackets. I think the Blues take care of business in a rout tonight.

Bet: St. Louis Blues -1.5 (+135)
