New Jersey Devils @ Washington Capitals

Tonight’s action begins with a Metropolitan Division showdown between the Capitals and Devils. New Jersey enters this game in fourth place in the division at 28-22-4 (60 points), while Washington is currently in sixth at 24-21-7 (55 points). Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET from Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

Things are starting to unravel in the nation’s capital, as the Caps have lost eight of their last 10 games (2-6-2). The one thing that was holding up well was their goaltending. However, the netminding has fallen off, considering the Capitals have allowed an average of 4.6 goals per game over this 10-game sample size.

Now, they’ll welcome a New Jersey offense that’s still one of the best in the league, netting 3.4 goals per game (ninth). They’re also a respectable 13th on the power play at 22.89%. Meanwhile, do we even need to discuss the Devils’ abysmal defense? They’re just 24th in overall defense, conceding 3.13 goals per contest. With New Jersey’s high-energy style of play combined with both teams’ slumping defense, I think we’re in for quite a bit of scoring in this one. I’ll play the over.

Bet: Over 6.5 Total Goals (-105)

Pittsburgh @ Wake Forest

I will highlight this game here because there are some major bracket implications. Both teams are squarely on the bubble and jockeying for position as we turn towards the latter half of February.

You’re missing out if you haven’t been watching Blake Hinson lately. He will shoot anything, draining nine threes last game and five the game before. Pitt is riding a five-game winning streak, while Wake Forest has lost each of its last pair of games.

I’m surprised at how wide this spread is, especially considering the solid defensive minds, how the Panthers have been playing of late and how Wake Forest won’t come by anything easily on offense. Pittsburgh rebounds well and ranks 15th in perimeter shooting, so the Demon Deacons must get creative if they hope to cover the spread. However, I’m trusting momentum and perimeter shooting here and taking Pittsburgh to cover.

Bet: Pittsburgh +6.5 (-112)

Champions League Best Bets

Inter Milan vs. Atletico Madrid

Last year’s runner-up, Internazionale, secured their ticket to the Round of 16 by placing second in Group D (3-3-0). On Tuesday afternoon, they’ll host the Group E winner, Atletico Madrid (4-2-0). Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET from Stadio San Siro in Milan, Italy.

The Italian side is primed for another deep run this year. They’ve been in excellent form both domestically and on the continental stage. Simone Inzaghi’s men are absolutely lighting up Serie A, holding a nine-point lead in the table with a record of 20-3-1. Inter has been untouchable at home recently, going 4-0-0 in their last four matches and posting a goal differential of +9 (10:1).

The recent string of home wins includes three consecutive clean sheets. During the group stage, the Nerazzurri conceded only once while registering a 2-1-0 record at home. I fully expect their defense and goalkeeping to be elite on Tuesday. While Atletico racked up 17 goals during group play, they haven’t faced anyone of Inter’s caliber. I’ll lay this short price with the home side.

Bet: Inter Milan Moneyline (-130)
