U.S. Open 2022: Viktor Hovland Betting Odds, Preview, & Prediction

All eyes turn to the golf world this weekend as players and fans gear up for the 122nd edition of the U.S. Open Championship. The four-day tournament makes its return to The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., for the first time since 1988 and this will be the fourth time that they've hosted (1913, 1963).

Many players hope to find themselves in the hunt for the Major championship on Sunday, or at least in the running to cash in on the $12.5 million purse. The winner will walk away with a $2.25 million check. Will Viktor Hovland make a run at one of the most prestigious titles in golf?

Viktor Hovland Tournament History

The last time the U.S. Open was held on Brookline was back in 1988, when Curtis Strange earned his first U.S. Open victory by holding off Nick Faldo in a playoff.

The 2022 U.S. Open will be Viktor Hovland’s fourth time competing in this Major. He made his U.S. Open debut in 2019, finishing T12, followed by T13 in 2020. In 2021, Hovland withdrew from the event due to an eye injury.

This will be Hovland’s first appearance at Brookline.

Viktor Hovland’s Recent Form

Viktor Hovland closed out 2021 with a bang, winning back-to-back tournaments to end the year. First, winning the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba and then The Hero World Challenge in Albany.

Hovland’s first two starts of the 2022 calendar year were nothing to write home about, finishing 30th and missing the cut at the W.M. Phoenix Open. After the missed cut, the Norwegian caught fire once again. He had three straight Top-10 finishes, including two top-five finishes (T2, T4).

Unfortunately, that hot streak was short-lived as Hovland hasn’t finished in the Top 20 since.

Viktor Hovland U.S. Open Predictions

This could be a disappointing tournament for Viktor Hovland. Despite being great off the tee and on the approach, he has had troubles around the green (204th in strokes gained). The Country Club at Brookline has some of the smallest greens on tour, and around-the-green play is vital if you want to be around for the weekend. Due to his recent form, I can see Hovland having trouble getting inside the top 60 and possibly missing the second cut for only the second time this year.
