UFC Dana White’s Contender Series: Season 6, Week 7 Odds, Picks & Predictions (9/6)

Dana White’s Contender Series (DWCS) is now entering its final stretch of the season, as just four weeks remain. Through six weeks, 25 fighters have received UFC contracts, with 11 of their fights ending inside the distance in the last three weeks alone.

With UFC 279 just around the corner, let’s take a closer look at where the value is in this week’s DWCS.

Rodolfo Bellato vs. Vitor Petrino

Rodolfo Bellato and Vitor Petrino, two light heavyweights from Brazil who have already fought each other, will square off once more in this week’s main event of the DWCS. For Petrino, his professional career began with a victory over Bellato, a 25-second stoppage from which he hasn’t looked back, coming out on top in all six of his bouts since.

Bellato has never gone the distance in his professional career, with the loss vs. Petrino still his only defeat. Following that loss, he won three straight fights to set up the main event tonight at the Apex.

In the end, I predict Bellato will exact revenge in this encounter, looking much improved in the time since what I believe to be more of an outlier result than his average. With a UFC contract on the line, look for a big showing from Bellato in this one.

Pick: Rodolfo Bellato (+125 via DraftKings)

Jimmy Lawson vs. Karl Williams

In this battle, two heavyweights will clash as Jimmy Lawson and Karl Williams both have just one defeat under their belts. Lawson, a former Penn State All-American wrestler, lost his professional debut in early 2019 and enters this matchup after four straight victories inside the octagon.

Williams, who is 32 years old, enters this contest having won six of his previous seven professional fights, including three by way of knockout. This is likely his last chance to compete in the UFC, an opportunity he won’t want to squander.

It is worth noting that Williams only recently relocated to the United States from the US Virgin Islands and has only lately begun working with full-time professionals as he prepares for this fight.

While there is always risk in taking a side on a heavyweight bout due to the punching power, I think we see the more experienced and tested Lawson get this win well within the distance.

Pick: Jimmy Lawson (-215 via DraftKings)
